u lost 5mpg ??? which set and what duration did you buy???gsxrjjordan wrote:ouch ~
The "stage" or "step" of cams is usually determined by how much other **** you have to change out to use the cams. At 10.5 mm of lift, I'd do springs anyway, but technically I guess you dont have to. Also, whenever you think about getting cams, remember that you need adjustable cam gears to get em tuned right, and someone that knows what they're doing to tune em. So cams + springs + retainers + adj gears is around $550 if you know where to shop, + installation you're looking at about $750.
If thats not enough, big cams take your gas mileage down the crapper around town - I lost about 5mpg right off the bat - if all this doesn't sound worth it, just get a set of stockers, or keep your stockers if they're ok.
wow, it's really really hard to get a set of those camshafts. i wish my car's suspension wasn't ghey so i could move on to making more power.to the OP, notice this guy has a GT2871R with the large turbine housing . . . so like i said, if you're not shooting for over 300whp, don't bother.DrifterProdigy85 wrote:stock cams are 240 duration, 9.5mm lift i believe. i run the HKS 264 Step 1's and love them. Nice loappy idle with hard pulling from 4000rpm to 7500rpm.
so you must absolutely run adjustable cam sprockets with aftermarket cams? i was under the impression that a guy i know with aftermarket cams in his sr was running the factory sprockets..i must have misunderstood......if nobody minds me being a threadjacker can you tell me if it is even worth just running one aftermarket cam and one factory? say an aftermarket intake cam and factory exh. cam , vice versa...ive been thinking about doing this and have been searching for people who have done it but have not found anyone so im guessing there is no point in it?gsxrjjordan wrote: Also, whenever you think about getting cams, remember that you need adjustable cam gears
i am running the stock exhaust cam and the VTC thingy on my step 1 cams.S13FASTBACKSR wrote:so you must absolutely run adjustable cam sprockets with aftermarket cams? i was under the impression that a guy i know with aftermarket cams in his sr was running the factory sprockets..i must have misunderstood......if nobody minds me being a threadjacker can you tell me if it is even worth just running one aftermarket cam and one factory? say an aftermarket intake cam and factory exh. cam , vice versa...ive been thinking about doing this and have been searching for people who have done it but have not found anyone so im guessing there is no point in it?
I dont know the exact answer but i guess its a possibility. How old and what kind of mounts do you have? Im using Nismo on mine with good fitment so far.deathBooster wrote:I think that might be the problem. the DP is not attached just bolted onto the trbo and exhaust... the DP makes the exhaust 1.5-2.0" appart from the body.. can it be possible that my engine mount are old and are squashed down too much????
when a piston slams into a valve that wasnt moved out of the way by its crushed and bound spring.wildacexxx wrote:how does one know when binding occurs? when the head blows up?
