i have a 79 datsun 280zx and i have a 82 280zx motor... can I bolt on turbo or is there anything i will need (i know intercooler, wastegate, and of course turbo...) but I was wondering will there have to be any special modification to the engine ??? And if im not mistaken dont I have to change the clutch... *sigh* im sorry ahaha im just a lower lvl mechanic... lol, tune ups, brakes, and tires... and radio wireing is about all i can do =/ .... but i like learning and im certain you guys can help.

Thanks guys,

Robert

(p.s. if you guys know a speicific thread I can goto that would be awesome... it was just faster to type this out, and maybe someone has a turbo there willing to sell?? =)

im not sure about the old zs, but you will need oil lines. It all depends on the hp your going for maybe a fuel sytem uprgrade of some sort. evildky will chime i soon with more help.

you'll need the exhaust manifold of course but thats kinda a given...

as mentioned the wastegate and oil lines, intercooler not needed unless you plan to really play with ur boost. stock motor and low boost a standard clutch will suffice but if you start tweakin you'll want to upgrade

as wine said EvilD will come in and answer what I've missed or correct what I've wrongly given. also note: I'm going off the differences between my stock'79 and my '82 turbo motors

yes you can turbo using only the turbo exhaust manifold, turbo (has an internal wastegate), downpipe, oil lines, Oil "T", fuel injectors and pipiing (stock "J" pipe or otherwise), depending on what your engine set up is you might be limited on boost, unless you have a turbo block your really gonna want to keep it low boost, this is the absolute minimal to get your L6 turbo'dto do it right you want the complete turbo donor: harness, injectors, fuel pump, ECU, engine along with the other items already listedone great reason I have found for the complete swap is that it really helps with the learning curvethe intercooler isn't required untill your running more than 10psi on a low compression motor, everything else will get you in the 275 whp range, at which point the stock managment system Injectors and turbo are all rpetty well maxed out, the stock block (in good shape) can make right about 400 whp before the pistons give up the ghostand if your gonna gamble the boost on a stock motor do not skimp on the boost gauge or the boost controller!boost is addictive and it's easy to get greedy
