Well i'm now thinking of turning some of my attention to the audio part of my car and i'm looking to just setup the trunk with a clean install (flush mounted, fiberglass, or etc.) Currently all i have is a 5 channel amp which sits on the back of the rear seat and a 12" sub in a box that fires downward. i went to a local audio shop to see what they would suggest and they said that i should get 2 10's instead of the 12 i have currently since a 12 can't be mounted to fire facing the rear unless its under the trunk lid. My friend says that it could possibly be mounted at one of the tail light corners of the trunk but it would be firing at a 45 degree angle to the front of the car. I would like to know how yall would go about this as i'm still trying to think of what to do. the shop wanted to charge 300 bux for the install and an extra 100 for dynamat. If yall have any links to any s13 coupe trunk setups it would be greatly appreciated. So what would you do?

It wont really matter if the sub is facing 45*, 90* 180* or downward. You don't have to worry about imaging like you do with mids and tweets. Use what you have and don't let the shop talk you into buying more stuff from them. If you have to, make a mold of the sub enclosure you want to use and make it yourself out of fiberglass.

Please make sure your trunk doesn't rattle. I hate that with a passion! If you have to, string a rope through your trunk seal so it fits tighter.

ya excessive trunk rattle is a big no no in my book. i'll probably have to spend the extra money then on the dynamat. and then i guess he'll just have to make a little corner box that is shaped to the passenger tail light side of the trunk. wouldnt happen to have any pics of something like that in any 240sx would ya or links to pics of something like that? my search has thus far been unyielding of results....................

What's bad is you can't just make a box. You need to know how much volume this sub requires. The box is more important than the sub. Even a badass sub will sound horrible in the wrong box. Do some research, figure out what size box you'll need and read up on doing fiberglass work.

BTW, there are other sound deadeners(sp?) out there besides dynamat

Suggestion: Build the box larger then necessary. THen use wood blocks to decrease the volume

Jook - How do you remove the rear panels to get to the speaker?

just flip down the back seat and then the top rear shelf is held in by tabs. just take a screw driver to the rear deck and it should just pop out. then u would simply unscrew the the screws holding in the rear speakers.

i think i will read up on the fiberglass thread as it seems to have ALOT of good info in it. whether or not im up to task i'll just have to find out the hard way (lol) unless the shop offers me a great deal that i cant refuse. i have decided to just keep the 1 12" tho as it is a good sub that only requires .95 for a sealed enclosure. please post pics or links tho of any 240s with a fiberglass sub enclosure as it would be nice to get an idea of how to get it to look.............

Don't know how old this thread is but here are some pics of my 93 verts custom trunk install. It took me about two weeks start to finish...

The amps are actually under the carpet where my spare used to be. I'm in the process of cleaning them up, mounting some lights, cutting an opening in the floor above them and putting plexi in it. Hoopefully it'll look sharp.

interesting, i did want to have my one sub set up EXACTLY like how yours are but ended up letting a shop just build a enclosure which has the sub firing downwards. the box took up the entire portion from where the rear window ends all the way back to the rear seat. there is maybe an inch in b/w the box and the side of the trunk. looks nice tho and my gosh does the bass hit hard. what did you do as far sound deadining material glyph? or does it rattle only on certain notes?

I found some stuff at a local hardware store that's almost just like Dynamat (some sort of insulating stuff). When heated it molds and sticks. I did both inner and outer door skins, under the entire carpet, and both the floor and walls of the trunk. No rattles here, even at nearly eardrum bleeding levels lol. I could do that because a huge roll was only $30.

PS When I close my doors now it's like a Beemer or Mercedes - Solid Whump lol. Took me almost 3 days sound deadening alone but I could never have afforded it at all with Dynamat.
