Ok guys, I have a question. I have asked this one before but still confused. I was reading seginc's posts about engine noise. Anyway, I saw where cweber had posted about transmission slipping, where you push the pedal, the RPM's go up but the car doesn't accelerate.

Well, my J has been doing this for about 8 months now. I don't know why the hell it is doing it. When I take my foot off the gas it is like it corrects itself and then everything is fine. It tends to do it at slow speeds.

Before you guys told me it was the beginning of transmission failure. So, I took it to the dealer had then check it and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. So I went up there and took the tech's for a drive back and forth across the parking lot at varying speeds like a dumbass and it wouldn't do it. So they kept it for a weekend and still came back saying the codes were fine, it shifted fine, etc. This was about 6-8 months ago.

It is hard to describe what it does but it is exactly like cweber noted. The car drives fine, it shifts fine, it idles fine, so far this has yet to effect the car in anyway other than annoying the hell out of the driver (me). Has anyone had this problem before? Does anyone know what the problem is?

Carlos? Ever had this happen?

Just curious.

P.S. I have currently 120,982 miles. I have also told Crest that since I have brought them the car 5 times for this problem and they keep telling me there is nothing wrong that if something goes wrong I am going to raise hell!

If anyone is bored or has some free-time I would appreciate some feedback.

Thanks,Brandon

Brandon,

If its been doing it for 8 months then its likely not a slipping transmission as that usually signifies imminent demise, but maybe just a slow shift.

We have some of the best techs in the industry on this board but of course there are limits in diagnosing something w/o driving it oneself.

What happen if you mash the throttle and accelerate from standstill to 80 mph?

Hey Fred,

Thanks for the reply. It is just a weird thing. If I went from 0-80 it would shift fine. I do notice that sometimes it doesn't shift from 1st - 2nd until around 3K RPM's which seems a little high to me but you back your foot off the gas and it shifts fine.

It is just weird when I drive across a parking lot or something and I push the gas and the RPM's shoot up but the car doesn't accelerate.

Everyone keeps telling me that it is nothing and that they can find nothing worng with it, but I have had the car for nine-years and it just started doing this within the last year. Why didn't it do it since purchase.

Just trying to figure out if I have anything to be concerned about.

Sounds a bit like the problem I encountered a few months back. It could be your transmission revolution sensor (do a search for my thread). Best way to diagnose it is to have the tech drive around with the scan tool connected. It took 2 or 3 days for mine to trip. I had the sensor changed and now my J drives like new.

Last transmission fluid change was about three months ago. I check the fluid weekly still bright in color and no particles in it.

I have talked to my service tech repeatedly about doing a pan drop since you guys always talk about it and he tells me that it is not necessary and is just additional cost. So, that I know of I don't think a pan drop has ever been done.

Is that a must do thing? I have to admit my stupidity on this issue. Sorry. Lemme know.

The pan drop will tell you a couple of things: how much ferrous material has collected around the magnet and out how much crud has ended up in the bottom of the pan. The new transmission filter is an improved design.

If your transmission was slipping, it would do it in all gears not just from a slow roll. I think what is happening is your transmission is going from second to first and not engaging. It sounds like the revolution sensor might be worth looking into. Here is the thread driverdriver was referring to:

Hope everything works out. Long live the J.

Thanks for the replies guys,

I did find driverdrivers thread last night on the revolution sensor. I read that and I plan to check into it today.

I will keep you all posted. Thanks again for all the help.

J-Owner,

Should you need it, I would be happy to forward you the telephone number and name of the transmission tech at the Infiniti dealership that I went to. He's a really helpful guy with incredible knowledge of the J30 transmission (his only job is to troubleshoot and work on Nissan and Infiniti transmission's). Let me know.

driverdriver,

If you wouldn't mind the name and number of the Tech would be great. I can at least talk with him so I will know what to tell the people at my dealership.

Thanks for the help

His name is Bill (also goes by transmission expert). Ask for him when you call the dealer. I have his last name on a bill somewhere. Let me look for it.

Telephone number is: (416) 291-1188He actually works for Nissan/Infiniti Canada head office out of the Agincourt Infiniti-Nissan Dealership in Toronto.

The dealership is open from 7:30AM to 9PM Eastern Time (Monday to Friday) and from 8:30AM to 5PM (Eastern Time) on Saturdays.

He told me he does over the phone consulting work with other Nissan/Infiniti dealers and techs for most of North America.

If you speak to him, describe in as much detail as possible what you are experiencing. Thats what I did, and before he ran any tests on my J, he knew what the problem was.

Good Luck!
