Sorry if somebody already answered this. I couldnt find any related thread.

I'm thinking about getting a new set of wheels so that I can easily switch between winter/summer tires. What's gonna happen if my new wheels don't have tire pressure sensors? Is it fine to drive without them? I was told if both sets of wheels have the sensors then I have to go to the dealer for them to reprogram the ECM each time i switch the wheels.... and I dont wanna do that.

Also, do pressure sensors play any role in VDC? If I dont have the sensors installed is it gonna make any difference?

Thanks

Good questions. I know that the tire pressure sensors don't have anything to do with the VDC. You could just live with the dummy light during the winter...

hey Joe... i was gonan ask the same question too.. so are you sayig that if there are no sensors in my winter tires.. then the tire pressure light will be on throughout the entire winter???

there is no way to temporarily deactivate (turn off ) the light without bringing it back to the dealer?!?

I'm not even sure the dealer can turn it off...You could always get another set of sensors.

Maybe taking the fuse out would do it. I am not sure if it has its own fuse or bundled up with others.

ok I've found this one.

A signal receiver for tire air pressure monitoring system determines whether the pressure detection signals from all transmitters have been received during an engine stop state. Upon affirmative determination, the receiver sets a timer, and deactivates the entire or partial function of the receiver. The receiver determines whether the second predetermined period has expired after the setting of the timer. Until the period passes, the receiver retains the deactivated state thereby to save electric power consumption during engine stop state.

So if You find a receiver you should be able to play with the timer. Theoretically.

the sensors should unscrew from your stock wheels so you can move them to new ones. The instructions are in the manual that came with the car which should be in your trunk in a leather case, that is if it hasn't been thrown away.If I'm not mistaken the sensor is built into the air valve and you just unscrew the valve.

Be advised that not all tire pressure sensors are the same and are not interchangeable. Also the light can not be temp dissconnected. If the system does not see the tire pressure sensor then it will set the light. If the light is on it will not effect any other system of the vechicle.
