I know how ignition timing works, trust me. I also know the Nissan timing dance. I even know how to hook up and use a timing light!

So what's the issue? you might ask.

On the 240, the timing pin (the piece that sticks out from the block that you use to point to the timing marks) is at a very very strange angle. On a Sentra SE-R (classic), you are supposed to position yourself directly above the pin, and shoot the light straight down. On the 240 pin I feel like I should be way off to the side shooting through the stock airbox location.

Anyone got any tips here? If you look from both locations it's a good 10* difference in reading... lol.

Only reason I would say that straight down isn't a good idea, is because the timing marks are spaced evenly. As they curve down the side of the pulley, due to the shape of the pulley (circular) and the rules of line of sight, the visual degrees of measurement decrease as they get closer to the pin.

When you're ready to use a timing light, orient yourself so that when you look down at the block pointer it should line up with the crank pulley bolt.

That's what I had figured in my head, the question I suppose I am asking is how you guys do that. My head would have to be in the stock airbox location to achieve that.
