I know that this has been covered before, and yes I've searched and read the sticky, which I found helpful, but I wanted more info and help.

Today when I went to a mechanic to have the guides removed the mechanic told me that it was better to replace the entire timing chain kit instead of the guides. He told me that down the road it would save me time and money. My question is would I be better of just replacing the entire kit, or just remove the guides? The mechanic told me that labor would cost around $850 not including parts. If I were to have the mechanic remove the guides would I have problems with the timing chain later down the road such as the chain jumping, wearing, etc.?

Thanks for your help in advance.

well there are ppl on here that have not had chain guides for awhile and have had no problems.

Removing your upper chain guide is a 15 min job. So if that is giving you problems just remove that.

But if you pay a mechanic a couple hundred dollars to remove your timing guides when your car has not had its timing chain replaced in the last 60K then i would just say replace it.

I guess for now I'll just have my guides removed. My car has 110,800 miles on it and it hasn't had it's chain guides replaced yet. Do you know a place that sells everything I need for a timing chain replacement?
