So, in previous posts I have been having issues with my 94 Q45 hesitating/rough idle, ect. So, the problem is still unresolved and we have taken care of the usual suspects. Just to be sure, I have the hubby clean the TB again, notice that the little flapper inside is open unlike the photo on Q45.org which seems like the flapper is closed. Just checking to see if this normal... Thanks.

The flapper or throttle plate is closed until the accelerator cable opens the plate to allow air to enter the intake system. I have the symptoms but it's not a dirty throttle.body. Check the mass air flow sensor. I have to replace mine...very easy to do too.

I think the reason mine looks different is that it has TCS and the one they show in the photo does not. So, I cleaned the throttle body once before, but this time opened the throttle cable lever and holy cow...the nasty chunks started just pouring out. Used almost a whole can, and cleaned the maf, and new air filter. She purrs now, only minor issue...idle is slightly high. I can live with that. Im in love once again..

Nice work, Alicia!

High idle could be some funk in the IACV... I'd say clean that and your PCV while you're at it, and run a couple cans of BG44K through her for good measure.

Thanks, I will search for the procedures to clean the IAC and PCV, never attemped those. Not crazy about running the BG44k through it again, last time I did the car ran worse and worse every day I drove it and I had to take it to the shop, it was throwing injector codes like crazy. Decided to just drive it home and park it, but stopped and filled up the gas tank on the way home. By the time I got home, the issues and codes went away and havent come back. I do run iso heet in it all the time, but has anyone else had issues with the 44k?

Also used a turkey baster to suck out all the nasty old brake and power steering fluids and replaced with new. Love this car, just cant ever seem to get it to run perfect...but oh so much better than my 1990 ever was!

skip the bg44k if it caused trouble before ! Really no need for the iso-heet either.most fuel is already 10% ethanol {alcohol} .

The high idle is probably more airflow through the throttle body (crud cleaned away from the crack that's left open at the bottomwhen it's closed) - so you'd be ok to just back your idle down a bit with the screw on the side of the IAC. I'm assuming you didn't remove the throttle cables during the cleaning... if so they could be set too tight and also cause the high idle.

Thanks for all your input. The car had been running great for about a week but now having some issues, at least Ive been able to narrow it down a bit.... The car runs excellent if I start it and let it warm up for about 10 minutes before leaving for work. Runs fine on additional starts during the day. If I start the car in the am, only let it warm up for 2-3 minutes it is a completely different car. It sputters and acts like its a carburated car with no lack of fuel. The idle jumps around wildly... WTF? It seems as if it stumbles and acts like it might die at any minute only if the thermostat is still closed. But let her warm up an extra few min...shes fine. Where do I start, I was thinking MAF replacement but if it runs good warm how can that be? Ideas?

Theses cars run rough on a cold start up generally. Is it cold where you live? When was the the last time you changed the fuel filter?. If your MAF is not the issue, the car might be misfiring, check coils packs per FSM and clean connection, make sure there is no oil leaking on spark plugs. Also check and clean single wire groung connector from coil pack wiring.

Thanks for your response. Its not that cold in Seattle, been mid 30s last few mornings. I just recently changed the fuel filter in December, and the fuel pump about a year ago. Im considering just swapping out the MAF with a known good one and see what happens. The car seems fine as long as I warm her up, but Ive never had it run rough like this on a cold start. Its not throwing a CEL either. I will check coil packs and check for oil leaks.

I'd definitely swap out the MAF first.
