Question about the rear seat

Hi All--I'm looking at getting a Versa, and as I've been reading a number of reviews, I saw somewhere that the back seat was adjustable...not just that it could fold down, but that it could move forwards and backwards like the front seats do. I found this hard to believe, since I had never seen that in a car before. I suppose that you could make the trunk space larger if you moved the rear seat forward a bit.

The main thing is, I can't seem to find anything else about that function, so I'm guessing that the information was wrong. Can those of you who own one straighten me out? Is the rear adjustable in that way? Does it slide backwards and forwards?

Thanks--enjoying lurking here and learning about the car. Good resource!

I got the SL with all the bells and whistles available and my rear seats do not adjust forward and back as far as I could tell.

I even read the Driver's Manual cover to cover and didn't see anything about that referenced.

The seats DO fold down but not completely flat. They are about 6" higher than the floor of the hatch area when folded down.

Hope this helps!

I believe that was original speculation, but did not actually become part of the car. Seen other websites with articles that are dated before the Versa was available saying the same thing. Too bad they didn't guess that right.

Mine can be adjusted forwards and backwards. It has a lever in the front as the front seats do and it even have a lever that is intended to be pulled from the cargo area in case you need more space. The seats can be moved forward all the way to the back of the front seats.

Sometimes I wonder why didn't Nissan just release a left hand drive Tiida and only change a few things for compliance reasons

Or at least the back seats.

And the only vehicle I've ever been in that had an adjustable rear bench was my dad's old '92 M-Bz 420 SEL. Rear reclining bench rules. Couldn't fold the seats down though, not that you would need to. That trunk would easily hold 8 stiffs.

eeehhh...Panama is in America, therefore, my TIIDA is left hand drive.

I recently saw a pic on a Versa...the cupholders infront the shifter are open with no cover...mine has a cover...I have to take pics to post some differences I have noticed.

I was speaking of the Japanese version and options. They have things like mirrors that automatically fold in when you arm the alarm, mirrors that aim down automatically when you're backing up so you can see if you're in the space correctly, and sill plates that light up when you open the door. Oh yea they also have a 4wd option that would be pretty helpful for our Canadian Homies. I like Clisped idea. Import them from Japan

Wow, thanks for all the answers, everyone. I sure wish the US version had this feature...it seems pretty useful, when trying to get more trunk space. That's one thing that bothers me a bit about the Versas I've looked at--the trunk doesn't seem very large. It's OK, and I realize it's because there's so much room in the rear seats (that space has to come from somewhere) but it would be nice to be able to choose which configuration you wanted. Sort of like a Fit, in a way.

Thanks again--everyone!

If you're referring to the hatchback version, it's actually quite deceptive. The trunk LOOKS small, but it's not. Even with the rear seats folded, the V only BARELY has less cargo space than a Fit.

My first road trip with the V had 4 people in the car... 3 of whom were 6' tall, the other 5'8". Everyone had plenty of legroom. We also had luggage for all 4 people for 3 days, a smaller cooler, and a full computer system (tower, monitor, accessories) that we were taking to my parents. And it all easily fit without having to remove the package shelf/cargo cover.

I've carried Blade power bus racks, still in their boxes, in the back of the car with the seats folded down, and they fit front-to-back without having to intrude into the front passenger area or interfere with my shifting.

And still floating around somewhere should be a pic of one of our other members with two full-size Rubbermaid garbage cans (the 33 gallon kind) standing upright in the cargo area.

They are called Lawyers, US government crash tests, and ultimately it's a economy car whereas in the rest of the world it's near luxury. Tiidas can also be purchased with automatic climate controls and leather seats. Nissna didn't want ot draw too many people away from the more profitable Sentra.

I somehow think they still failed in that task... seeing how slowly new Sentras are rolling off the lots here vs the Versa.

I read this a few days agp.

"Sales of its Maxima cars dropped 20.6 percent to 4,224 and Sentra sales fell 16.6 percent to 8,291. Altima sales buoyed those decreases and the Nissan car division as a whole climbed 9.7 percent in February compared to year-ago figures."

It didn't mention any problems with the Versa. When will Nissan realize that the rejuvenation of the Sentra was just a failure and will continue to be. Just scape it and focus on the V.

There should have been big clues to Nissan:

1) After the Versa was released, you couldn't get anyone to buy an '06 Sentra unless you were out of Versas AND gave a gigantic discount on the Sentra.

2) After the '07 Sentra was released, you still couldn't get anyone to buy one if you had a Versa on the lot.

Calin,

With the seats folded down, we managed to carry five boxes of laminate flooring, 15 feet of loose unfinished oak flooring, a new folding kitchen block table AND last but not least, a NEW bistro set (table four chairs) unassembled in a box. You should have seen the guys at the furniture store when hubby said, "load her up!" They laughed. They didn't laugh when it fit! Several guys asked, "What kind of car is THAT?"

After that we went to Sam's and bought $200 worth of groceries and came home.

Last night, we went to Lowe's and bought five 8 ft. boards and five quarter round boards - also 8 feet. With the left back seat folded down, we slid them in and they fit between the front two seats.

I drove a Blazer, then a Jimmy for three years before getting the Versa. So far, I haven't a bit of problems hauling things.
