I've looked at the article for a few weeks now. I can't get over one question that seems to have go both un-raised and unanswered. Is it legal to have on during night driving? If not, I don't think I'll further persist on attempting to add them onto my car.NO! I DON'T WANT THEM FOR BLINKERS!

lolll. I meant the leds in the front lights and taillights. thats why I put it in quotes. "retrofit."

more like a clever mod if you ask me.

I should have been more careful in my wording.

Well. Does anyone know if it's legal to have those LEDS on during regular night driving?

"front tailights" is like an oxymoron...do u mean front headlight leds? or tailight leds? Both examples have been on this website. one person took apart the headlight and put an LED strip inside going across the middle of the headlight on the exsistent bar. Also from the pics of his car at night the headlight projection kinda blends the led in with the headlight so I dont see why it would be illegal. Rear leds are legal as long as they are red im pretty sure.

When I had my headlights retrofitted, the LED strip and the two angel eyes were wire to the park. The amber park light was removed and so my running light was the LED strip and angeleyes. No cops ever pulled me over for it and I drove in NY and in NJ and pretty much in PA. Now that doesn't mean it's not illegal. Go to your local DMV and ask them to see a copy of the NJ MVC

In CA, as long as the tail LEDs emit red (or amber for the turn signal but we have a red housing so it wouldn't really matter), they are legal. If you are driving, I would assume you're not going to just use the LED strip as your headlights, so they would blend in nicely with your normal low beam.

I'm not to sure about the laws in NJ...

I don't think we have a clear answer as to whether its legal or illegal... the thing is, since so many new cars have different styles to them (i.e. most of the new audi's have a version of the LED lighting in the headlights) I think the cops are less likely to pull you over than they would have been 5 years ago for the same thing.

I've had my led strips on the front of my car and they are wired to the running lights so they are ALWAYS on at night, and I've never been pulled over for them (knock on wood)

technically, I beleive most laws state that you aren't suppose to have more than two sets of lights emitted from the front of your vehicle at a time (i.e. why your fogs go out when you flash your high beams). i know in my last car, I had two sets of fog lights, and I got pulled over for having them both on here in San Diego once!

Great insight and useful information. I'm going to actually ask if these are legal or not in person. I'll have an answer for everyone eventually. By the way, nice sig. The LEDS are sweet.
