My wife got home and turns out the guy who helped her out of the ditch hooked up the toe strap to the front axle shaft and its got to be replaced.

We pulled out the shaft and the fluid started leaking out from where we pulled it out. Question for you, does this shaft enter right into the transmission therefore needing CVT fluid to top it up? Or is it the transfer case?

Thanks for the replies!!

ITS HARD TO TELL WHAT ALL OF THIS COULD BE, MY FRIEND.
for sure i can tell you that the front axles are only in the transmission. the only thing hooked up to the transfercase is the propeller shaft going to the rear diff.
there are possibilities that he cracked your transmission. if he was dumb enough to use the axle to tow a 2000lb car, think of that 2000lb pinch point on aluminum right where the axle goes into the transmission. it could be a hairline crack thats hard to see, or even internal - but it could be there. id hate to see you re-install a new shaft, and then discover a leak after the car has warmed up and been driven on. for sure i can tell you that the seal is shot.

can you take some pics for us?

He must be stupid! so he "helped" a lady by towing her car from the axle and caused thousands of dollars damage??? I hate those type of people!

I am so sorry to hear that. She should said no and call the tow truck...
