I am replacing my header with a Megan Racing header and the EGR hot pipe that goes from the Header into the EGR Valve won't reach. Contacted MR directly and they said that I can run without the pipe which I will do since all EGR valve related search results have said that its pretty much useless and since I don't have to concern myself with doing emissions testing Im going to leave it off. I know there is a block off plate that goes where the EGR valve goes but I dropped the newer KA into my car and didnt have the funds to go get the plate so the ER is still on the block and open where the pip was supposed to go. My question is this will the car run with the EGR valve open to the atmosphere like that or should I get a cap to screw onto where the pipe connects to the EGR?
My car has been down for well over a month and I am trying to get it up and running by late next week at the latest. I understand the concept of how it works, it basically takes hot pressurized air from the header through the pipe and recirculates it through the EGR so the ECU knows that you aren't running rich and retard your AF ratio to counter higher NOX levels. I also understand that not having and EGR will throw a code unless you fake it out with a pair of 100K resistors. My main concern is will the car run and drive and if so will it run like crap because the EGR is taking in fresh air?
Any advice or info on this would be appreciated. I will get the block off plate but for right now I just want my car back on the road. If anyone knows off hand what size nut is on the pipe then that woould be great bc then I could just get a metal bottle cap from either Home Depot or Mcmaster Carr to screw onto the EGR opening until I get around to taking it off completely and putting the block off plate on.
