Most of you may find this question to be dumb and before I posted this I searched to see if someone else had asked this question but I couldnt find any. Well anyway...to the question...I'm not to farmiliar with the CA series engines and I wanted to know what the CA stood for exactly and how they differed from KA's and SR's and why they aren't used too often. Please tell me if this has been asked already so I don't waste your time. Thanks alot!

i dont belive the letters actually sand for anything. they are just an identifies, the letters after it do though i.e: ca18 "DET" but its not used often simply beacsue its an older motor and has been replaced by new motors. such as the SR

i figured that but i guess i just asked to make sure, i know the det and such is direct fuel injection and electronic fuel injection or something to that effect and t is obviously turbo...so is the ca18 like the truck engine for nissan? i only say this because i've seen it refered to as the work horse...just trying to get to know this engine....never really heard much about it thats all...thanks

yes, thats why alot of people feel its underpowered and and an overall bad engine, which i don't, but i didnt know if there was another one or something, im just wondering where the CA falls into the mix when it comes to engines. i just wanna know what they came stock in pretty much. i mean was it an option at the dealer when they were new? or what? and what makes them different from the KA's? thanks though

well the ca, ka, and sr are just engine codes.the numbers are the liters. (ie.. 2.4L 1.8L 2.0L)the d = dual camthe e = electronic fuel injectionthe t = turbo

iv yet to learn the ca would stand for cunning artist or anything.

well.. the CA18 was originally, since nissan usually uses the number of liters the engine is for the name of the car... CA18 = original 1988-1990 180sx (see the 180 = ca18 )

anyway... the KA isn't a bad engine really... its just heavier and didn't come turbo. but for an all motor engine, it really isn't such a bad investment.

And just a little info, in Japan and Austrailia, the SR was the motor of choice to be used in their small trucks. Kinda makes you laugh doens't it...

the CA18 came in alot more cars than just the 180sx... it also came in the silvia, bluebird, pulsar, 200sx, and even the skyline once had a version of a CA in it...
