question about the auto transmission in the TT model

i came across a 94 with only 48k.

only draw back is that its an auto, my question is

how well are these trannies, do they hold up well ?

The transmission's are pretty strong and can handle quite a bit of power. HKS makes an ALC for them which really improves the feel of the automatic.

Yes, very cheap. Probably 6-8 grand below the actual value.

That'd be cool. Only draw back is the auto. Could always swap the transmission or just buy an TT 5pd. Good luck either way Semir.

To answer your original question about the durability of the transmission; the TT auto is EXTREMELY durable. The transmission is the same as the one put in Q45's of that era, and I have a 1994 Q45 w/ 246,000 miles with original transmission. The transmissions are seemingly bulletproof and very cheap to replace ( if need be) because they go for about $300 used ($500 for JDM). My brother has a 1990 N/A auto that he swapped in a TT/Q45 auto transmission into, and it works perfectly and would probably outlast the car.Good luck on your purchase!-EQwhipD

Do you think the tt autotrans is really that strong? also do you know of any gearing differences between the two?
