I'm just wonder, and i have had this conversation with my brother in law a few times and i just want to get another opinion before i decide to make the change.

I have a 03' G35 with 118k miles and the car always has it's oil and services done when needed and it runs great, however i was thinking about changing the oil from regular conventional oil to a synthetic oil, however when i brought this up to my brother he said that if i do make these changes that the seals will leak because of the change from one oil to another and it will cause problems. :wtf2:

Is this true?

Will changing the oil from regular to synthetic create issues for me? Is it worth doing? :ohno: or should i drop the idea and continue doing what i have been doing? :gotme

If you have an opinion, please feel free to drop some knowledge

Thanks.....i want to get some opinions before i make up my mind.

On older cars its possible, but I've yet to see it. On anything 10 yrs or less old it probably won't happen. Shouldn't be an issue. If anything does leak its time to change it anyway.

+1 on what biggie said. I'd even say 20+ years back at least. Modern engines do not use seals that expand like older engines do. If you had a 1970s chevy 350 with a ton of miles, I wouldn't put synthetic in that...but an 8 year old G35, you'll be fine!

Thanks guys for the suggestions, you guys always pull through! :werd:
I thought I would be OK, but i wanted to get some more opinions before i make the change.
I had the car in the shop today and was speaking with the mechanic and he thought the synthetic would be a good change, but told me to look into it more as he was a younger mechanic and was not 100% sure. But good thing i had the car lifted and able to see under it, found out i also need a new rack & pinion, have a very small leak but i don't want to get worse so looks like that will be the next thing i am going to get done!

Thanks again guys for your suggestions, helps me feel even more sure on my decisions.
