I have a 2008 Rogue and will be changing to synthetic oil on my next change at 30,000KM. My question concerns our 2000 miata which has 70,000 miles on it and is parked 6 months of the year. I was wondering if there is any advantage or disadvantage of changing to a synthetic oil at this stage in life (70,000 miles). I thought I read somewhere that it could cause some problems on car with more miles. I asking here because there seems to be a lot of knowledgeable users here and I'm not a member anywhere else

Thanks

Changing the car from conventional to synthetic or vice versa will have no impact on your car, it is an urban legend. A lot of people are doing it and still wait to see something happening. For your car, it is just oil, it doesn't care.

Changing your car to synthetic oil, you will have to wonder if it is beneficial to you to do that: Do you do a lot of miles with it, do you want to extend your oil mileage? If you answered yes to one of this question, it could be financially beneficial that you move to synthetic oil.

If this is just because it is a "better" oil and " I want the best for my car", conventional oil is as good as any synthetic oil for normal mileage and/or normal use.

Another member here has the same combination of cars as yours, and is also from the same region (Is there a club of Miata/Rogue owners over there?), He will probably tell you what he is doing in his case.
