P.S.im not buying anything and i got it about the chain guides for those who are going to say chain guides are more important than a stereo.ok thanks.

they pop because they have bad amplifiers in them the speakers that is, The amplifiers are built on to the speaker so you have four speakers and amps I would recommend unplugging the faulty speakers or 1 by 1 until you can find the bad ones.

If your speakers are the original Bose speakers then each speaker has its own amplifier. The amp is located in the speaker box. The speaker may still be good, just the amp that needs to be replaced.

WHY ARE YOU EVEN THINKNG ABOUT SOMETHING AS UNIMPORTANT AS A STEREO WHEN YOU HAVEN'T CHANGED THE CHAIN GUIDES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm just kidding, this forum is too stiff sometimes.

OK here it is. the speakers are amplified and are 2ohms. aftermarket head units are 4ohms. match them up. also ****ty head units put out bad sound. also your amps built on the the bose speakers could be bad.also possible the amp in your head unit is bad. i had burnt out amps on my bose and replaced them with two pioneer 6x9s, leaving the bose in the front and all sounds amazing. what brand is the unit?. are your wiring connections made well?

also you can remove the amp from the speakers and test the speaker alone and that will tell you, if there is no popping without it then its your speaker amp, if there is you may have a crapped out head unit or damaged speakers

I'm also having problems with 3 of the Bose speakers in my 90Q and haven't paid much attention to speaker threads until now. Are you saying that with the Bose head unit a pair of rear non-Bose 6 X 9 speakers can be used or......are you using a different (non-Bose) head unit with non-Bose rears and bypassing the Bose amps on the fronts wiring directly to the speakers? Thanks.

The reason most aftermarket head units are not compatable with the bose amp/speaker modules is because the bose requires a low level signal input{line level} and most aftermarket headunits incorporate an internal amplifier and output too strong a signal for the bose, causing overload of the bose module and therefor distortion. In effect you are amplifing the signal twice.

qship is dead on. if using aftermarket hu with the bose speaker amps, likely you will need to have a line converter (really just a voltage divider) to lower the hu output down to the 100mV-1000mV range.

Mike- hit me up offline. i've been doing some bose tweaks lately.

I have bose speakers in my car with a sony head unit, pioneer 6x9s and bose 3.5s i believe in the front door amps and everything included. works fine, i had to install what scosche calls a high quality sound system adapter though. all it does is converts the headunits output from 4ohms to 2ohms. Same deal goes for my mothers caddy. For the pioneers i bypassed the output converter so the 4ohm speakers get a 4ohm signal. What i did was replace the paper bose speakers (dont want to ruin them) with the pioneers and removed the busted amps. tested the speakers, they still played fine without the amp on a kenwood unit so i sold them to a friend for 70 bucks. I suppose you could pull the amps off the back and use them with an aftermarket unit which saves you from replacing the speakers and the 20 dollar output converter. Ive never touched the front speakers because, well, they work so i dont know if you can take the amp off and still ahve them fit or bypass the amp (im sure you can). Some 3-way alpines arent a bad idea to be honest, its good quality and you can sell the bose im sure.

Back on track here, test the speakers without the amp, see if they work then go from there. There are a few places that repair them. I just bought some speakers and a head unit because i cant stand tape decks (depeche mode sounded great but i cant buy cassettes anymore). 100-150 for an ok unit60-100 for decent 6x9s30 for dash kit and wire harnesses65 for used 12inch subs in a box and 150 for an amp50 for hd radio box thats about what ive put into my car and the bose in the front are loud and clear. Good car for a system actually you can hear the highs and mids and insane bass as well.

sorry for rambling
