Running staggered 264/272 Cams will start good power around 4krpm and hold it to around 8500rpm. Power gains are all gonna depend on your turbo setup so choose cams based upon that. Only thing from a staggered setup is that you wont see peak numbers as high as a matched set but powerband will be broader so its a playoff.

2871R .64 would need 256/264 or 264/264 Cams. 2871R .86 would need 264/264 or 264/272. 272/272 could be used too but i dont think it would help too much over a 264/272 setup just because the 2871R .86 wont fully take advantage of the 272 cams high end ability (8000+rpm). I run Brian Crower 264 cams with my 2871R .86 and love em.

ya i'd go with 264/264 on any 2871r. Thats the absolute best match IMO

How much low end torque do the 270+ lose as opposed to the 264?

I'm glad to see this thread, as i've been doing some cam research myself. I recently ordered a GT3076r .63 a/r and am trying to find a cam combo that'll aid spool time on the large turbo. I've heard nothing but good things about the 264/272 combo (both step 2's) I'd like to stick with HKS cams, untill i see how the BC cams do in the long run.

I'm really only worried about the mid rpm range and getting the turbo spooling faster....the GT3076r is a big turbo and can make up for any power loss from the cams on the upper rpm side.

hey bud i just replied to your email noting what cams i think you should run..it all depends how high you wanna rev..not over 7500 i'd go with a nice 264/264 setup because they can make power till then. if you decide in the future to go solid lifters and rev to say 8500 then i'd go with a 264/272 setup or if you want to go higher than 8500 i'd go with 272/272 to get more peak power. Right now I am on hks 264 cams and i am running them because i got them for a great deal...a lot of people arent fond of them though from what I am hearing. I'd have to see a dyno though..A guy told me the other day actually that JWT dynos every single cam on the market to make sure that theres is the best and out performs all other cams..so you make want to keep that in mind

cam size doesnt determine whether or not you need solid lifters. your goals determine whether or not you need solid lifters. if your goals are to make power over 7500rpm then you will want solid lifters

Not trying to pick a fight but i doubt JWT dynos all the other cam manufacturers to make a better cam. If they did, they would have comparison dyno charts out showing it which i havnt seen any of those yet. Sounds like a gimic to me. Personally my cam choices are HKS, Tomei, or Brian Crower at this point. Tomei and BC have the higher lifts opposed to HKS.

no man its cool i understand..you are totally right, you would think that they would have dynographs out but like i said its just what i heard not one of my known facts..When i put my 30r on i will be running 264 step 1's from hks and will be dynoing..then what i would like to do is put in another set of 264's with about the same lift probably BC's and dyno to do a comparison for everyone..i'd love to do all cams but im just an average Joe who doesnt have that money..but maybe we could atleast see the better of two companies
