Question about Sr20de

1. For SR20de do they get good gas mileage?2. How would you go from sr20DE to sr20DET? 3. Can you potential hp on sr20DE ?

and I will be thinking about getting a S13 SR 20de

I averaged about 24MPG when I first got my S14 SR20DE, which is about what it should be (it should get about 26 highway, 18 city, which is actually around what the KA24DE gets). Right now I get about 22MPG on my turbo'd SR-DE, which I could probably get better considering that's with my foot on it most of the time.

I turbocharged my SR fairly easy... I went with S13 hardware (T25 turbo, S13 manifold), though I used DeatschWerks 450CC sidefeed injectors. I have a custom tune that I did based on the S13 SR20DET's mappings, with a VERY conservative timing map (because of the 10:1 compression).

The raw power potential for the non-turbo SR20DE isn't really that great. I had about 190BHP on mine, but that's about max with out going with higher compression or with extensive work with the timing and fuel maps on a dyno.

I see. looks like I'm take the route buying a sr20de and later turbo it.

I dont mean to thread jack, but are the DE and DET clutches interchangeable? I will be building an S14 DE nat. aspirated. This is one of those maintenance things I would rather do while the motor set is out of the car.

The DE's clutch is smaller, but you can use the DET's clutch, if you use the DET flywheel and starter.

If I'm not mistaken, the RWD DE's flywheel, clutch disc, and pressure plate are the same diameter as the FWD DE... But I can't verify that, since my DE was an automatic that I changed to manual with DET parts.

I was planning on upgrading the flywheel along with the clutch, so I should look into a DET starter. Thanks for the info.

If you're in a pinch, you can use a starter from an 84-88 200SX with either a CA18ET or CA20E, all you have to do is remove the intake manifold brace that covers the starter (the CA starter is much bigger than the SR's) and cut off one of the mounting ears on the starter.It'll only be held in with one bolt, but it's enough. I've had that on my 87 200SX for about 2.5 years now, never came loose, never any starting problems.

It's better than coughing up $600 for a new DET starter, it's a total rig job, but it does work. LOL
