Hopefully someone will help me with a question I have about my S14 Sr20det swap, it is S14 black top. Well recently I replaced the oil pump and that was a pita because the motor was in the car. Anyway, I went thru everything even manually priming the pump. I used 10w30 Royal purple for new fluid all synthetic. I put an new nissan oil filter on the car. Well, upon starting the car for the first time I heard a rattle coming from the engine. Also, the oil light stays on in the dash. I have not revved the motor, nor have I let it get to temprature. So I investigated and noticed the sound was coming from the front cover above the oil pump. To me it sounds like the chain is rubbing or something. So I figured I need to go thru an get a new chain tentioner. Now does this sound like the proper thing to do? Or is there something else I should look at before replacing that? Previously to the install there was no such noise. I set the timing on the motor according to what I should. I set the crank pulley to the 2nd mark and the cam dimples to the grey chainlinks. Then I installed the CAS where the colored dimple lined up with the dent in the shaft of it when pushed into place. So, timing should be at stock.

So with this info please let me know if you have any suggestions.

I need to know about this oil sending unit also.

I also have a Greddy Emanage Blue. Which is hooked to the ECU. I am guessing these are previously installed sensors but I really don't know which ones. So if someone could maybe help me figure it out I would appreciate it. [IMG][/IMG]

What's your oil pressure? Take a mechanics stetescope and put it to the oil pump see if the sound is coming from there. Seems like it wasn't installed properly assuming you did nothing else but replace it. The chain tensioner should really be common sense, just pop it in.

So I pulled off the valve cover to see if oil was coming out of the lines above the cams. Well, when I checked this time no oil but when I had gotten it together for the first time it had oil coming out. So I made sure to turn it over about 4-5 times for 20secs each time. Then when I got it all back together and started it I heard the noise immeditately. So I pulled the cover and discovered no oil in the oil lines above the cams. So now I am at a complete loss. I was thinking of banging out the oil pan some more. I also was going to order a new oil pick up even tho mine looked good.

The other problem is that oil sending unit. I cant get any tool in there to take it out. So I can check the oil pressure.

I just dunno and I am fruatrated with all of this.

Yes all i did was replace the pump.

You did pump it right? Cranked the car over until the oil pressure light came off? Remove the fuel pump fuse before doing this.

yea, I removed the spark and fuel from the equation and then let the motor turn over several times. While doing this I watch oil coming out of the oil lines above the cams like it should have done. After getting it all done I put it back together and then the noise was there. So I pulled the valve cover and saw no oil coming out.

Double check your installation. Was the pump brand new? It's really rare that oil pumps go bad.

Yea it is brand new, I also still have the old one that is still in good condition. I just was doing preventative maintenance. Now it seems it did do so. I think I might pull it all apart again and see if I messed it up or if it was something else.

no oil to the top end sounds like the wrong bolts are installed in the cam caps. The rear ones are hollow to allow oil to pass through them and into the oil squirter. Did you remove the cams prior to installing the new oil pump?

Nope never removed the cams or oil squirters.

So does anyone know what that oil sending unit is? it doesnt look like any I have seen online but, I know mine is wired into the main harness. I also looked and it seems that the two plugs that are yellow I was asking about are connected to where the oil filter hooks to the block. Both of the plugs are hooked in and I guess they are oil temp and oil pressure from Greddy.
