I've searched but to no avail. Ive not had much experience with it in action other than with a valve cover gasket using rtv. ( for those wondering yes i have the actual valve cover gasket just the rtv on top.) i don't know; a friend did it. Can you overuse rtvcan you under use rtvwhen is it inappropriate to use it(ie dont bother with it and buy the actual gasket.)I've been wondering about this for a while.

Don't use it when it will be in contact with high temps(exhaust) or will come into contact with fuel. It really shouldn't be used on high pressure applications either.

As far as proper use, both mating surfaces should be cleaned. There should be sufficient silicone to touch both surfaces when they mate, but not so much so that it goes oozing out everywhere when you bolt the parts down.
