I could not believe what I discovered today...I just got the car back yesterday from the shop that installed my SR, and I requested that they reset the timing for me, because I was having a little trouble with getting it set...Well, everything was sounding ok except for this obnoxious noise that sounding like a really loud valve tap...Well, we go back to my friends house, and we pull the valve cover off and I could not believe this isht...One rocker arm was missing both the shim AND the guide that sits on the valve spring retainer and another was missing the guide, so basically the rocker arm was just mashing into the retainer/s. I pulled both rocker arms that were causing this problem and the retainers look to be ok and will still hold the shims and guides. Long story short (yea right haha), my question is is there any readily available counterpart for these shims and guides?? Like will the ones from an Sentra SE-R's SR20DE work, or would these shims and guides be every so slightly shorter or taller because of it being non-turbo?? Am I stuck with having to order the actual S13 SR20DET shims and guides?? Any help with this matter would be awesome. Thanks for your time.

problem is usually cause by valve floating/overreving. use the SR20DE manual to set the shim to the proper size. rocker stopper will help.

the problem could have been from putting the shim and the guide on the wrong side. Remember to note which side of the rocker arm has been cut so it tapers properly into the guide, the other side of the rocker arm that has not been tapered will go on the shim.
