I was wondering if anyone has ever replaced their motor mounts without actually removing the engine entirely. I need to replace my worn out mounts in my '95 SE w/ auto trans and am wondering what it involves. Please only reply if you've actually done this and haven't had to pull the entire engine from the transmission and out of the car.

I've done it on my 5spd like that (2x):

Jack front of car, unbolt transmission mount, unbolt bottom/top of mounts, jack engine up (where transmission housing), ensure you are not stressing fuel/vucuum lines, switch, reverse the process.

Thanks for the feedback! I just have a couple questions:

So you actually jack up the front of the car, then jack up the engine/trans combo even higher?

And can you be a little more specific about where you are jacking the engine/trans combo from? I was going to lift it with a hoist, but with the car already jacked up it might be easier to jack from underneath.

Finally, about how long of a process is it?

If you use a hoist, you risk the engine moving forward and stretching lots of vacuum lines and electrical wiring. With the jackup technique, you won't have that. He did say jack it up where the engine and transmission meets/bell housing.

Yes you jack the engine/transmission higher as the chasis is being supported by jacks.

As for time required, when I did mine by myself, it took approximately 2 hours depending on your mechanical skills.

Additional notes:

I worked from the driver sideRemove the driver side wheel so you navigate easierTake your time jacking the engine up, frequently check the tension on vacuum/fuel lines just to be sure. My 5spd didn't have problems but I have replaced a lot of OEM lines w/braided hose...
