Question about QX56 navigation

Hi all...new here. I'm purchasing a 2006 Infiniti QX56. Yetserday, while driving, I noticed i couldn't turn on the navigation. The salesperson told me that we have to put the navigation software in, and it should automatically work.

Is this true? It's a car from the US (i'm in Canada), so would it require the DVD?

Welcome to NICOclub good neighbor to the north! I believe you would need a disk to "flash" the hard drive, and the DVD.

Thanks for the welcome, and the reply! Great to hear...I hope it's not hard when the dealer gives me the disc (I hope he has it!)....I also downloaded a Navteq Infiniti Navigation 7.4 Disc....is this the disc I need?

You know what else is weird? I was reading here that you aren't suppose to see DVDs on the front screen...just the back one...but while driving, I was able to watch a DVD....possibly the previous owner modified it?

Yes, the previous owner must have modified it, is there a switch you have to flip to play the DVD on the front screen?

It turns out, that the previuos owner installed this:

I finally figured out how to default back to the navigation screen on the front....otherwise, it shows the DVD in the middle console.

I LOVE THIS CAR. But man, do i need help with all these features..and I don't have an owners manual...just the navigation manual..anyone know where i can get a 2006 QX56 owner's manual?

thanks for the link!....yeah, it's sweet someone did it, but they didn't hookup the audio out for the front screen...so when i'm watching tv, there is no sound....looking at the box, it seems that there is no "audio out" for the navigation screen....so i guess i'm out of luck unless i hire a pro to do it.

Don't you have the FACTORY DVD system on your vehicle?

I figured it out...had to press 5 to get the navigation screen...the previous owner took out the navigation dvd..so i had to get a new one...i'm all good now with the navigation...thanks timbo
