Hi, this is my first post here and I must say this is a nice forum. I wanted to get some insight on the best way to purchase a g35. I graduate next year and will soon after start work and one of the first things I do will be get a new car as mine is approaching 10 years old. I really like the Lexus IS 350 and the Infiniti G35x. My question is this, what is the best way to get good deals on cars like this? I noticed on Infiniti and Lexus' website that they offer what they call a Signature graduate programs. Has anyone ever purchased a car on a signature graduate program and if so, what if anything was different than a normal Joe walking off the street to buy the car? Do they offer better APR or lease terms?

Thanks, and I look forward to reading this board.

Welcome to NICO!

Fresh outta college...I'm sure your credit isn't quite established, getting a good loan rate might be tough. That's the first I've heard about the Signature grad program...do some research. I would suggest getting into a used one though. With the new G37 coming out, older models will be a bit cheaper...

Just be patient and look around the net for good deals. Autotrader, craigslist, ebay are all good options...just drive before you buy!!!

well actually my wife and i both have credit scores above 700. I am 25 and have done everything I can to keep good credit.

i have read alot about the g37 and from what i understand they are going to be just making a coupe. is that correct? if so, will they keep the g35 sedan?

That's really good to hear! hell, you're only 4 years younger than me.

I'm not sure if the VQ37 will make its way into the sedan version...I don't see why not. What they should do it put the titan engine in the coupe!! Only time will tell. My recommendation would be to get a good rate from a Credit Union, not the dealer. One good thing about the G35/37 is that it has a great resale value, so it's a good car to lease.

Just keep looking for a good deal. We'll let you know if the price is right

Joe's right about the credit union!!They actually want your business. The big banks might break even on you, so they really don't care. The banks can't touch my credit union rates. Usually the only way to get a better rate than the CU is thru some promotional deal at the dealer.

A few years ago, a new co-worker came to me about cars. He was fresh out of college and hadn't even gotten his first pay check. He got pre-approved thru the CU at a good rate on a slightly used mustang cobra with a price of just over $21K. He paid right at retail for it. I told him to walk, but he really wanted it. Anyway, I doubt that the banks would have given him a blank check like the CU did!!

If you do end up getting a new G35x or IS350 (obviously I would recommend the G :-) ), the best way to get a good price once you've already test driven and know what you want, is to go to cars.com on the morning of the last day of the month, build out your car, and then request quotes from three dealers closest to you through that. Make sure that in the comments section you specify that you want to buy the car today and don't have time to drive around to see each of the dealers. Most of the dealers will try to not give you a price up front by email, and instead will try to get you to come in to the dealership. I would reply by email or by phone and be firm that you cannot come in to all the dealerships, and you just want their best price (don't specify whether you're planning to lease or purchase, or whom you will be financing with - you can tell them you haven't decided yet because it's best not to get folks giving you quotes based on monthly payments). If you're firm with the dealerships, most will give you their best offer by email. Once you have those, go with the best offer assuming that dealership has a good reputation.

Some Advice.

The best thing to do is research. Drive boths cars, but decide on one. Go to the dealership and check everything out (don't impulse buy). Make sure to fall in love with whatever vehicle you plan on buying color, exterior, and interior. Try not to if settle if possible, that way you never regret what you got. I unfortunately did settle, once.

Everyone knows all new cars lose value once driven off the lot.Find the price for the model and year of the car. Use the net to find what the dealer pays and how much the car is marked up. This price does not include add ons; nav, leather, moon roof ect. Depending on where you live and the Demand of the vehicle, for the most part you should be able to buy the vehicle for about at or 500 over invoice. Remember, this is not including upgrades. They usually take the price off the vehicle, not the upgrades it come with from the factory. They have no control over that.

Build the vehicle you want online. Add everything u want and need, at the end it'll give you a total, if you don't like the total you can always go back and change things around until you build something you're satified with. Stay online and look at all the inventories for the dealerships near by. This will allow you to filter through what they have. This will show you the prices and upgrades each vehicle has. Once you find something that matches or close to matches what you're looking for, contact the dealer and ask if they still have the vehicle. Try to Find at least 3 vehicles that you want, but from different dealers that way you're not bummed when one dealer doesn't have what you're looking for and you can move on to the next. Most Dealerships have internet sales nowadays. This allows you to minimize personal contact with sales people. Email the internet sales people, kick back and watch everyone try to win your business. Most of these people deal with Fleet sales and will let you know the absolute low price they can let the car go for. Even after everything is agreed on, they can still take off a couple hundred more. Just let them know that you didn't wanted tinted windows on the car

Since you say you have good credit, you'll get the best or close to the best financing available, unless you're paying cash (even better dealing power). It's the sellers job to find you the best financing.

Okay Smitty, I think I can help you out the most here. I am 20 years old and I have one year left in college as well. I just purchased a 2007 G35S last Monday. My credit score is 704 and I got approved. All you need is a cosigner if you don't have any credit history. The APR rate I received is 7.4%, which is great IMO since this is my first car purchase. My down payment was fairly small too. Only about 8% of the final price.

The only reason my credit score is above 700 is because I have taken out student loans and have a balance of 0. If you don't have any credit, I suggest taking out some student loans, they help out big time. You can also use a loophole in the credit rating system by getting a relative with great credit to put you under his credit card. A few months later and boom you have a very high credit score...but no history. But like I said earlier, just get one of your parents to cosign. Make sure their credit score is about 630 though, or it will be tough to get approved by one of their banks.

I hope this helps, and good luck getting that G ride.
