ok, i dont have the car yet, but i pick it up tomorow. 91 hatch. 205k miles, engine rebuilt 5k ago.. i'm not planning on keeping the motor too long... this wont be my first project.. i've built an 85 corvette(450hp/530ft lbs), a 94 civic hatch (b16a2 220 hp na engine), an 03 wrx, and a nitrous powered 97 honda crv(no, not crx, crv, mini suv...) now i'm moving onto a 240. i also drive a 400 hp na 90 300z.oh, and i used to drive an 87 fiero gt scca dealer mod car (3.4 v6, 225 hp)

one thing i've learned over the years is that i hate power steering... but i've never tried to take it off a car. the vettes power steering wasn't the most overpowering unit, and steering is easier with the rear wheels anyways... the civic and the fiero both came without p/s... how hard is a non p/s'ed 180? and what all will i have to pull to get it to work right? also, is it an outside or an inside pulley? and will the removal of the system cause any problems with the rest of the belt system? anyone done this yet?

2nd question a/c

the car is a project. it will be gutted except for seats, dash, door panels, and center console, everything else is going. like the power steering if i can. and hopefully the ac as well (the car has windows..) same questions. inside or outside pulley? will removal of the compressor cause any belt problems. anyone done this?

i'm also planning on pulling the mech fan and going to a an elec unit.

so you'll know, i'm a fairly competent mech. i work on 1700hp engines every day (helicopter mech, they pay me so things dont fall out of the sky ^_^)

anything else i could pull? the ka24 uses fairly old tech, which i'm fairly familiar with. does it use an air pump like some old pre obd2 cars to put fresh air into the exhaust to make the car appear to run better? also, the a 91 model even obd1 compliant? i've got a source to get a fairly fresh ka24de, low mileage for less than 200. anyone try that 700(shipped) turbo kit off ebay? what isn't included? (looks like the charge piping... will the sr charge piping(for a fmic) work?)

thanks in advance

you cant eliminate the PS belt because it drives the waterpump/fan also. You can make a custom idler pulley if you wish.

AC can be removed no problems. (saves 60-80 lbs total)

There is a similar thing to the air pump, it uses the exhaust pulses to inject air from a one way valve system. do a search on PAIR or AIV valve.

89-95 is OBD195.5-98 is OBD2

cheap turbo kits will work, but expect only 200hp from them, which can still be fun. (300+hp is easy from a proper setup however)

i was looking at the power steering.. i think i can pull the pulley off the pump, and buy a shorter belt and see how it goes... ps sucks ^_^

also, how do those metal steering bushing things work, and how well, and how are they installed?

thanks
