Question about possible Z32 MAF hack - please help

I have a Z32 MAF I am trying to use with my KA-T setup and am having a lot of difficulty getting my fueling right.

The MAF looks like it was pried open at one point in time and possibly some soldering done - tough to tell. Is there any reason to modify one of these MAFs and if so what would I look for? There does seem to be a questionable resistor with long leads that streaches across the top circuit board but I can't tell if this is original or not.
