SOHC132,000 miles Every time I start the car after it sits overnight or hours, I get a 2 or 3 sec rattle. I know for a fact is not the timing chain. It was replaced years ago and the noise continued even after that. After a few years living with, I replaced the oil pump for a 280Z to increase lubrication and no changes.

It just gotten worse and real loud now and I definetely want to silence the rattle. I inspect it the lifters, none of them seem to have air or be loose. They all looked tight and in order. Can the lifters still be defective ??Can the other cause be bad bearings ??

im not exactly shure..but arent the lifters hydrolic type...ie ..they fill up with oil?...if so they seem to be draining there oil over night..try adding some additive to your oil..like (drawing a blank for the name) the thick crud..that should hold it from rattlin for a bit till ya can rework everything up top bro.
