pardon my ignorance, but i have taken my cylinder head off and noticed that when I turn the crank cylinder number 1 is at TDC but the number 4 piston is not. The number 4 piston never reaches the very top. Is this how the motor was built? Or is there something wrong with this motor?

When I turn the crank, cylinder 2 and 3 come up at the same time and reach the very top. When I turn it some more cylinders 1 and 4 come up but only cylinder 1 reaches the very top.

I hope this makes sense?

thanks

no that's not right-there's a problem there somewhere

nothing common that I could take a guess at though-you'll have to get into it to see

you're probably looking at a bent/warped rod, or a damaged wrist pin.

you were right aries, it was a warped rod indeed. Darnit.hmmm.. what to do now, do they sell individual rods? or only in sets of 4. Now im deciding if I should just build my motor up for boost.

well, heres a little bit on my project. I got this motor for free from a friend who went sr and Im gonna put it into my datsun 510. I was eventually planning on a low boost turbo set up with like about 6lbs of boost. what do you guys think I should do? Im also on a budget :( .

thanks

You'd better make sure it didn't take anything else with it...I'd check the cylinder wall really well, replace the wrist pin and clips, possibly replace the piston depending on what it's like, new rings etc. Also, check the crank really well and make sure it didn't score anything up on that journal. Also, make sure you get the right grade piston, rings, and rod to replace it with :) Oh, and let me know how much a new rod is from Nissan because I'm curious :)

you can indeed buy indevidual rods.THough for the cost of a stock rod ($160 from Nissan) I would simply go through and do Arias forged rods and pistons with rings for about $690 total.

the best price i found here in california is $102 for a stock nissan rod. I found this place online that sells rods for $37 a piece. what do you guys think about this?? Heres the link:

http://www.importperformanceparts.net/imports/

the rod is made by Topline. Is this some cheapy rod? or is it comparable to the stock nissan ones?
