i have an '08 coupe and I just hit the 3,000 mile mark.. I've read in a few other discussions that the transmission oil can be changed @ 60,000 miles.. so just wondering when is a good time to change the engine oil or any other oil stuff that needs to get changed?

3,000 is a good time to change the oil, I did my first at 2,000 and then every 3,000 after that...I wouldn't wait too much longer because of engine break-in getting it changed out will be good for the engine!

DOn't know what type of oil Nissan used but I'm guessing it was regular 5W-30 but I've been using Mobil1 ever since the initial oil change

Remember,..Oil is a lot cheaper than a new motor

Change your oil at least every 3750 miles, as per your warranty. 3-5k is the general rule of thumb, depending on your driving style - I recommend getting Mobil 1 as Dangeris said as well.

I've always been a Mobil-1 guy myself, but my Dad had to try Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic with his Tundra 5.7L when Mobil was having their problems with manufacturing a couple months back... he's sung it some serious praises. He's claiming an increase in fuel mileage and overall smoother engine operation.

His average mileage went from 18.9 - 20.7 or something like that. Either mileage figure is borderline insane for a 380hp V8 in a 6000 lb truck, but I'm tempted to give the Pennzoil a try in my coupe since I've just gotten to my oil change mark.

I changed to synthetic blend at 2500 miles, and just rolled over 5000 miles on my way to work, so I'll be changing it this weekend. Synthetic all the way either way.

I read on one of the Z forums at some point about a study with all the different brands of synthetic and how they did with the VQ... anyone know where to find that? I could never find it again after I read it the first time...

I use Royal Purple only. 10w-30 in the summer 5w-30 in the winter.

I have a hard time believing that oil alone caused a 2mpg jump...

Change it after the first 3,000 - after my initial break-in period I will be promptly switching to synthetic.

Like with everyone else, we all have our brand choices...I personally always use Valvoline.

first oil change at 1,000 then every 3,500 miles after that. i believe after my second oil change i upgraded to full synthetic. amsoil 5w-30 (sometimes switching to RP).

typically with synthetic, you can actually go for more than 3,500 miles (i've done up to 5,000 miles in my other car)... and my mechanic always asks me why i change my oil so often. personally, i don't drive too harsh during the weekdays (i have a less than 4 mile round trip commute to work) but i do occasionally let her open up on the weekends or when i go on long drives.

but know this, after you start using synthetic, you probably shouldn't go back to dino.

I use to run a Pennzoil quik lube. Platinum is the way to go. When Pennzoil took on the name of Platinum it was found that Mobil1 was an inferier oil.
