question about non-organic clutches w/alum. flywheels

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

Ok, I got some racing in last night. This was the first time I had really opened it up, other than on the dyno. My stock clutch is slipping REEEAAALLY bad, LOL. I spun the tires through 1st/2nd, and then 3rd/4th wrapped up really fast, making me think that my clutch is slipping..

Well, so I'm going to get a good clutch. I want a non-organic clutch, but from what I've heard, you have to replace your flywheel every 20k miles with a non-organic clutch.

My main question is...What will last longer-An OEM flywheel, or a Fidanza Flywheel...I don't really care much for aluminum flywheels, so if a stock flywheel would last just as long, then I'd rather have it.

Fidenzas disipate more heat(aluminum).There friction surface can be replaced on them.What's not to like?

Or you could just resurface your stock one. Cheap.

Yea, I figure just re-surface the stock one(20 bucks), or replace the stock one(40 bucks)

I didn't know about being able to replace the friction surface, so maybe it's worth it then.

new fidanza friction surface is about $160 shipped from enjuku. more than a astock flywheel or resurface, but you dont have to worry about getting it resurfaceed correctly and the time it can take (not very long). you also get the benefits mentioned.

What kind of torque are you making? I'd stick to organic unless it is absolutely necessary to use a more exotic material. Copper Ceramic clutch discs aren't as comfortable to drive around on and wear is an issue.

If you're able to spin the tires, then your clutch is not slipping THAT bad. When my clutch was really really bad, I would drop it at 4K rpm and have no tire spin AT ALL!! lol

Ask yourself how many times you want to try to take that transmission off the engine. Its a pain in the Homer.

lol, doesn't sound like your clutch is really slipping very bad if at all. My clutch is so bad, if I drop it from 3k, I don't go anywhere.

Yeah, but if the motor is outrunning the car in 3rd or 4th gear, the clutch has very little life left in it, regardless of what the car does in 1st or second. Higher gears put a larger load on the clutch.

Not if you have a sprung hub, like my custom clutch. Driving on the street feels just like stock.

Not if you've swapped a transmission out 4-5 times. After that it's cake. :D

As for the wear issue, I have yet to see any problems. Then again, I installed my clutch just a few months ago.

BTW, here is my clutch, it has 4 copper ceramic pucks with a sprug hub. It was made for me by a shop that specializes in heavy truck clutches.

i just got a new cluch that is non organic how long can i expect my flyweel to last b4 needing resrufaced

As long as the disc lasts.

Without more information it would be impossible to guess. Metallic discs do not inherently tear up the steel flywheels. The problems come from the dramatic heating they induce which the factory flywheel was never created for. Expect to see some glazing and radial cracking of your factory flywheel if you drag the clutch to launch. This can be the penalty you pay for going with a non-street disc. Of course, flywheels are cheap.

I'm with Titan. Mine exactly like his but 6 puck, so street driving is a bit more tricky cause the clutch has a more ON/OFF feeling.

Since my engine is out of the car right now, I took a look at the flywheel and clutch disc for signs of wear and found none. Took some pics also but lost them. And that's with 3 months of abuse on it.
