So currently i have a ka out of a 95, just some basics, z32 maf, safc II, blaster coil, fuel pump... anyway the good old vaulve stem seals are starting to leak so it is time to do something different. My power goals are not crazy just wanna run 10 psi or so around the street and maybe 15 at the track. If i were to buy a rebuilt motor that is all stock but just rebuilt would i get a good amount of miles on it with a decent tune?? just woundering because im not made of money and dont want to go to crazy anyway and this place in Cali has them for around a grand..

thanks

Rebuilt OEM motors are good to go for a while at that PSI/power level. I'd try to spend a little here and there with it though, it's probably less the $1,000 for you to rebuild your motor though dude.

You could do new valves/seals, and forged rods/pistons for something pretty cheap...

I think you are better off putting the $1,000 into your current motor.

$.02

Yeah im pretty sure i could rebuild if i wanted but never have tried myself and after parts and labor to do it it would be a bit pricey and take forever. The only shop i trust around here is still hit or miss and the place that builds them inn california rebuild lots of motors so i am confident they will be good. If i could get a good 3 years out of it it would be good enough for me just because of my finacial situation and in about 3 years or so im sure i would have more money to dump into it. Thanks for the info though it did in fact answer my question.

It's not that difficult to rebuild a ka.. I fully built mine by myself never doing it before, i've been running 14psi daily for over 6,000 miles so far and everything is great.. Do you really not trust yourself to give it a try?

If you're swapping the motor and trans yourself then I'm sure you could handle the rebuild. Although, if you're not confident, then having it done or buying a crate is the best idea. Quite a few things have to be done just right or you'll have to pull the entire thing out to fix it.

See exactly whats available for $1000 in your area and then let us know. We can possibly assist with the final decision.

Well let's add things up really quick, shall we?

~$150 for the timing kit.~$120 for a gasket set.~$100 for an ARP head stud/bolt kit.~$30 for the gears in the oil pump.

And that's all you need to rebuild the parts of your motor that are worn and/or broken.

That's only ~$400 bucks. That leaves you with $600 for labor and other goodies assuming you don't do the work yourself. Just saying man...

For power goals under 300, its really not worth investing in aftermarket internals. If your tune and the engine control systems are good, your internals can handle that all day long. So save the money and spend it elsewhere.

I rebuilt a stock motor for about 1000 bucks. If you pull your motor apart and have your machine shop look it over, mic stuff and they say its ok, then your good to go from there.

~45 for a bearing set~200 dollars machine shop work including hot tank, resurfacing deck and head, replacing freeze plugs ~70 in valve seals~45 felpro HG~30 dollars in sealant/RTV~230 OEM front timing cover with new oil pump(not really NEEDED, if your bearings are fine your pump is most likely still ok).~40 OEM main seals~230 OEM timing chain kit~30 OEM T-stat~100 OEM rings~75 OEM valve seals~30 OEM T-stat________________
