In a few weeks I'll have a 89 gcz32 delivered to my front door (yay!) And I figured while I'm waiting for it to arrive, I'll gather up some stuff for it to do basic maintenance. My main question is regarding the Ecu. I'm wondering if I should get a usdm ecu and swap it, due to fuel diffrences and limiters, etc etc. Ive read about people getting jdm engines and using usdm ecu's ok....but are there any other car body related issues I might run into doing this? Or am I boned to go stand alone? I'll leave it with the jdm ecu if I have to....but the 118 mph limiter would be a bummer at the track.

I'll upload some pics of the car later! I'm stuck st work atm. :p

If you want to keep it simple just get a "stage 1" OTS tune from one of the good tuners (SZ, JWT, etc.). This does involve changing out the EPROM, whether you do it yourself or pay for someone else to socket your ECU. That will take care of the top speed limiter, also you can adjust the rev limiter if desired. Call or email one of the tuners, they are always happy to discuss and explain.

For some reason I was expecting that to not work being imported, maybe I'll have that done. My last z jad the jim wolf ecu upgrade, and I enjoyd the hell out of it! Maybe I'll look into that. I would much rather keep the car's original ecu unless I was to get a standalone, so knowing thst makes me happier lol. My only other concern is fuel. The ecu is set for 97 octane I believe, and premium over where I'm at in nw oregon is 91. Wonder if I would get spark knock from it :(

As much as I'd love to get race fuel for every tank I don't think I can afford thst for very long haha.

Great looking car, congrats. You should read up on the different octane rating systems. 100 octane in Japan is not the same as in North America, we use (R+M)/2 rating, they use RON IIRC. So 100 in japan equals roughly 93 here. Once you get the new tune, that will take care of the octane differential, you can even request the tuner to give you a fuel specific map (93, 91, 87, etc)

Interesting! I remember reading up on this a little bit ages ago but I didn't really pay much attention. It makes sense now, fortunately. That makes me feel much better - Probably still get it socketed and chipped if they can do it after a while. At least now I don't feel so concerned putting fuel in it and driving it :p

For now I have to resist the urge to buy stuff for it!

Yeah good luck on that one, I'm so deep on mine I couldve put a nice down on a house, but I've had it for 10 years.

Yeah..I'm hoping for at least a while it's a quiet car and I don't need to do any extensive work on it lol. My best hope is it has a newer engine. It has a stack of service documents that I will hopefully get and will decipher them and find out!

My next step is buying a house to have a bigger garage to put this bad thing in! My tiny one car garage just wont cut it, my current car barely fits!
