Where do you get the stock Mustang Cobra wheels? Is there a site that sells them or do you have to go to a salvage yard or what?

cnichols- After searching I saw that you said you got 17" stock wheels for $400 shipped. Whered you get them. Do they fit fine on an S14 SE. Also, are the rims in the three pics in this thread all the same wheels? http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....+rimsI definately want these if they are that cheap and fit that well. Thanks for the info if you get this.

your best bet is a salvage yard, as many mustangs and cobras that are out there, it shouldnt be too too hard to find them, assuming you're talking aobut the 97 cobra wheels?, i'd like to get my hands on a set of o3 cobra rims, also, try the ford dealership, you never know

I know Cnichols very well, he got those wheels off ebay if I remember correctly!

The mustang/cobra wheels have a great offset for our s14's, at least according to Robbie and Chris, I have NO CLUE about wheels/tires!

You can find those wheels on ebay or at a salvage yard.

Hope that helps.........

hmm if u want new ones than just pick up an issue of 5.0 mustangs and look thru the first 5 pages. writ down the number. call them up and place an order. or if u are smart, u will look in the wheels and tires section of the classified autos in the newspaper and find them.

I can't remember if he said they were in that good of condition when he got them or not, but I'm pretty sure they were. He has of course polished them and stuff for the heck of it, but they came with center caps and everything. They look great on the car, especially in person. Everytime I walk into his garage and see his car I drool.

I thought about getting some '96-'97 cobra rims (just like nichols), but I dont want to copy him. He said he could care less, but I would still feel shady. They look so awesome though.

Check the tire rack link in left hand column. If you select ford mustang cobra, and then whatever year('01 gave me 28 wheel choices), you'll find everything that'll fit, and a ton of replica wheels too.('03svt wheels, cobraR, etc)

If I ever find some ( im hot on the trail ;) ) what tires do you suggest. Im pretty sure they typically come with 245/45/17 stock. Should I go wider, or is that already too wide for a 240. THis is my daily driver for now. I want wider wheels but i dont know if 245 is already pushing it.

245/45-17 is 9.65" section width, and 25.68" overall diameter. I'll doubt you need more tire than this. In fact, this will probably bee too much tire.

What tire size are you using now? You want to keep OD as close to OEM as possible. Put a larger tire on there and you're changing effective axle ratio and decreasing revolutions per mile...robbing you of power and altering speedometer/odometer.

The main issue is the center bore on the Ford wheels. The Cobra uses a 70mm center bore and the wheels would not be hub centric. That is why we don't list them for Nissans. They are not machined or designed to accept a centering ring. We would sell them for a Mustang but if you want them for an S14, we would not guarantee they will work without vibrations or hub failure. That is why we only sell them for Mustangs. If it is not centered on the hub it can cause the lug seats to deform over time and that can lead to failure even at normal highway speeds.

Buying used wheels is always a gamble since 3-4 years of even careful use will usually let the wheels get out of spec on the inside edge [no longer perfectly round].

To check wheels just run then on a balancer without tires and make sure they need no more than 10 grams on the inside or outside flange to balance to 0/0 grams. make sure the balancer is on the fine resolution not coarse [+-5-10 grams reads zero] as they are when turned on .

You will find that 50-90% of the perfect looking used wheels will fail this test...........by as much as 20-30 grams per flange.

I had to buy 8 used 300zx wheels to get 4 decent ones and I know what to look for by eye. Thats the problem with INET buying "as is" vs brand new.

I check many new aftermarket wheels and very few pass the 10 gram test brand new [if they sell for less than $250 each in 15" sizes ] the larger you go the worse it gets.Remember the inner edge is only supported by metal thickness and the front!

Most radial force vibration problems are traced to the wheels not being round and the tires radial force not being positioned to offset this. But above the 10 gram amount no amount of tire correction can overcome the problem. You just end up with TWO vibration per rpm of the tire wheel instead of a single with match mounting.

As the spots change position on all 4 wheels you end up with 8 possible vibration modes for the car as a whole coming and going in and out of phase.

Even the best Michelin tires mounted on out of spec wheels will vibrate. Luckily the new car factory doesn't guarantee wheels against wear and tear and road/curb damage. AS new G/M/Q owners are finding out.........ugly and strong is better than pretty and weak.
