I'm in the middle of swapping an s1 rb25 into my s13 and have a question about the mounting kit.
I'm using the top hat kit and it says (just like the mckinney or so I've read) that a hole needs to be drilled into the x-member?
as i look at the pictures that came with the kit, it appears that the brackets that bolt onto the x-member have the two holes drilled right where the bracket should meet the slot that the original mounts go into and it appears that i don't have to drill anything and that both bolts would be near the top and bottom of the slot on the x-member; which has me confused.

I've tried searching but cannot find info or pics.

what I've concluded is that the brackets should bolt into the factory slots in the x-member, the motor mounts will go through the other end of the x-member brackets, and the engine brackets will go on the other end of the motor mounts.

can anyone clarify?

thanks.

I'm not sure if its the same as my mckinny kit (and it doesn't sound like it), but the mount brackets have a brace that runs down the vertical part of the crossmember. Once the engine is in and settled into the final place (it'll move around while you bolt every thing down and get it into place) your suppose to drill a hole in the cross member and bolt it into place.

My engine was as far back as possible, and that brace was still a good 1/4in off the cross member. Ideally I was going to cut a spacer out to fill the gap, but then I got lazy once the giant space eating engine was in place, and other similar style mount kits didn't have it. So mine didn't either. 3K miles no problems. I'm going to remake the mounting kit, and if I put those braces in, they will actually work.

Maybe your talking about the two bolts that go were the stock mount goes into the cross member? I'm not sure I can't find a good pic of the whole kit.

well I'm using the same kit that CA18Magic is using (top hat).
there is a pic of the bracket that im talking about in his build thread (2nd page, towards the bottom, middle pic of the 3 he posted)
it appears that there are only 2 bolts and they would feed through the slot thats already on the xmember,
which is why im confused as to what, where, and why exactly does the xmember need to e drilled?
it seems as though everything just "bolts" right up.

am i supposed to drill a 3rd hole through the crossmember and bracket,
forming a "triangle" with the 2 bolts that have pre-drilled holes for extra support? lol
