question about mileage recording

Hey everyone, I have concluded that the backlight issue on my gauge cluster can only be remedied by replacing the entire unit. I am in the process of purchasing one but need to know if the mileage recorded on the vehicle is recorded onto the circuit board of the gauge cluster or the ECU or some other device on the physical car. I don't want to purchase a new gauge cluster and plug it in only to find the mileage on the odometer is gauge specific; that could pose a huge issue when selling the vehicle. So the question is: will the mileage on my odometer remain the same after installing a new gauge cluster? Any help and feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

I believe that the mileage is stored in the ECU and not the cluster.
