I've done some searching on here about replacing the headgasket ( I'm going Apexi). A lot of people say that you need to have the block and head resurfaced. Is this really necessary? My motor is basically brand new as far as I can tell. When I took the head off the pistons have absolutely NO carbon buildup and the sleeves still have the factory crosshatching. It has to be a low mileage engine and I dont think that the extra work to pull the block and have it and the head resurfaced is worth the hassle.

Has anyone else done this successfully? How clean do the surfaces need to be. I've heard that you should scrape all the old material off with a credit card (or something similar) and wipe everything down real good. Any advice would be appreciated.

i didnt machine my block. i only did my head because it was slightly warped. But i used sand paper to clean the block. i used 400 grit but i wud recommend using something finer. Try to get them both to be like a mirror finish. Also i used copper spray in my Apexi head gasket just in case i had small imperfections on the block it would seal it up.

I think that I am just going to check my head with a machinist rule and feeler gauges. If everything checks out then I am just going to leave it. I was thinking about using some fine steel wool to polish the surfaces after scraping off the old gasket.
