Question about instrument cluster

I want to swap a ka24de into my 1990 240. But i also want to yank the auto transmission and swap in a 5 speed. I know the ka24d tach will not work with a dohc motor so my question is, does it matter if i use an instrument cluster that comes out of an auto or 5 speed. I've only seen pictures and i cannot see a difference. I know in most cars the automatics will have R N D D2 D1 on the display, but i didn't see anything like that in the 240. Is there a wiring difference?
