Hey guys here is whats going on... When i turn my key on i notice this buzzing sound coming from under the hood... it seems to be coming from this funky little thing on my intake (circled in red)... the weird thing is that when i move the electrical plug to my IACV-ACC valve (circled in blue) i can make the buzzing sound stop some times... but im 99% sure that the buzzing isnt coming from the IACV-ACC plug itself, and i dont think its coming from the plug to the unknown thing because when i move the plug around it doesn't affect the buzzing.. i think its coming from the thing itself. The car idles pretty rough (almost like its missing) and goes up and down alot... basically like crap, and it lurches around parking lots and what not when im going really slow.. but the biggest problem is when im just driving down the road the lack of power is killing me... and when i press the gas it accelerates fine for the first couple of hundred (yes i mean hundred) RPM's and then the power just drops to nothing.

oh by the way its a 1990 sohc.. and the IACV-FICD valve seems to be working fine because the high idle for the AC seems to work like it should.

I dont know much about this part of the motor obviously.

you seem to have the air regulator circled. i dont think that would affect acceleration in any way. try disconnecing the the plug to aac and the air regulator to see if you can drive better. maybe something else is buzzing.

looking at wiring for 1991, power goes from fuel pump relay to fuel pump and the air regulator. so you might have a short in that cct.

First thing i would do is pull your ECU codes. Your symptoms (running rough, lack of power) seem to indicate a code 13, or Coolant Temp Sensor, very common on the SOHC. But thats just a guess.

I just ran the self-diagnostics this morning and came back with a code 55 so thats not gonna help... and my starter just decided to crap out for good so i cant try unplugging the air regulator and aac plugs to see how it runs right now.

what position is the key in when the buzzing occurs? in the "on" position or in the start position? start position is when you are cranking ie when you temporarily send power to starter

Download a factory service manual and check out the EF-EC section they should tell you how to diagnosis your parts. How long has the bad idle been going on for?

thanks for the replies. The buzzing occurs in the on position... i dont know if it stops buzzing when you turn to start because i didnt have anyone around when i was looking at it.. The bad idle and so on has been going on for i guess as long as ive had the car which is about a year and 1/2... i dont really remember it being this bad when i first got it but its not like it happened all at once so i guess its been getting worse over time. I have an actual service manual (cost me fity bucks ) so i will check out those sections you mentioned. I got a new starter from vatozone today so im gonna try to throw it on tomorrow.

Is your battery and alternator good? alt belt tight . battery cables clean and tight? also pull the fuel pump relay and fuel pump fuse to see what happens to buzzing. weak batteries cause relays to buzz. or you have a short

well when i put the multimeter to the battery with the car off it reads over 12.. when i put the multimeter to the ignition wire of the starter with the key turned to start it was reading about 10.26 or something like that.. that should be normal right? when i get it running again ill check to see what numbers the alternator is pulling.. i dont know how old the battery is.. but the terminals are tight and free of corrosion. belts seem fine.

ill try pulling the relays tomorrow and see what happens.
