Has anybody upgraded there headers to a set of aftermarket performance headers?

Is the power gain noticeable and how much louder is the ride?

Thanks in advance.

Changing headers on an OBD2 engine is a violation of Federal Clean Air Act since the crank to warmup emissions [precat light off] will change.

Actually, if the headers have the appropriate fittings for the emissions, I don't see why they wouldn't be legal. Look for the CARB certification. Also, it will not set off an engine code if installed properly...Now high flow cats and test pipes are a different matter!

I contacted Borla to see if the headers they make that pair with my cat-back exhaust were 50 state emissions legal. As of this moment, they are not. They are currently working on getting them to that point.

Which leads me to my next question (which I sent to Borla and am awaiting a response). Do emissions standards for vehicles vary from state to state. For example, if the headers are not 50 state legal could they be legal here in GA?

yes. CARB is only California. If it can pass the sniff test and doesn't throw a code you'll be fine. Talk to the boys at forged performance...they might have a better answer.

Just because you pass a state emission test doesn't mean your set up is Federally legal. As states are charged with enforcement doesn't mean they do it to the letter of the law or at all.

California and a few other states do a better job but still may not comply with every detail.

Just some states are next to worthless in compliance. Just as some states have safety inspections and some don't.

On cars since 1996 the first 3 minutes after crank up puts out more emissions than the next half hour...........the precats and cats must be hot to work.

Exhaust manifolds usually don't offer much restriction , the same with cats once they warm up and the cores expand.

Always warm up cats on dyno before you make a run..............old trick cold cats vs warmed 2nd,3rd,4th run boosts numbers to prove [yeah right] the tuner did something for his money.
