Hey guys I'm about to install some aftermarket water temp and oil pressure gauges. My question is does the ca ecu need the stock sensors to run correctly or are they just for the dummy lights on the cluster? Asking to see if I can just replace the stock water temp sensor and oil pressure sending unit with the aftermarket ones or if I needed to find other sources to tap them in at. And lastly if it is ok to replace the stock oil pres unit with the new one would it be alright on the block or should it be remote mounted elsewhere? Sorry if these sound like dumb questions but I couldn't find solid answers searching.

thanks in advancewei

OK, first of all, there are actually 2 temp sensors in the intake manifold. They are the two sensors right behind the thermostat. The single wire sensor is for the gauge cluster, the two wire sensor is for the ECU. You can remove the single wire if you would like, but I'll tell you right now you'll prob have to drill and tap the mani for whatever sender you're using as it's a weird metric size that I couldn't find an adapter for. What I would reccomend (and what I wish I had done now) was leave that stock sensor for the gauge there and drill and tap a totally separate hole for the sender for the water temp gauge.

As for the oil sending unit, yes, it's basically a pressure switch that does nothing but run the light on the gauge cluster. You can remove it if you'd like, but what I did was "T" into that port, so that the oil pressure gauge sender and the stock sender both work. NISMO sells and adapter that screws into the block and into a regular brass "T" you'd get from a hardware store.

Awesome thanks for the info Float. I'll take your advice and be looking into the Nismo adapter for the oil sending unit. I'll give this weird hardware store not far from me a shot for a adapter for the water temp if not then looks like I'll be drilling and tapping.

I just run a GReddy water temp adapter in the upper radiator hose. I got it from http://www.splparts.com, and it was pretty cheap. Just get the 36mm one and grind it down a little (they no longer sell the 34mm outright) It is under "Silvia", then "Hardware", then "Fittings & plumbing".
