Hi guys, I'm wanting to swap out my gauge cluster lights for my '94 Q to LEDs. I did some searching around on here, but I couldn't find the answer. How many bulbs does it take to replace all of the cluster lights? Is it 12? I want to order them, but I don't want to get too few of them and then have to reorder more. If anyone knows, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

I looked at the rear of my spare cluster from a 91Q and there's 3 sizes of bulbs. There's two of the smallest bulbs that illuminate the trip odometer, 12 of the mid-size bulbs that light up the warning lights, and 5 of the largest bulbs that provide backlighting for the assembly. There may be a couple more of the largest bulbs hidden behind the bolt-on components but 5 is all I could see probing with a flashlight.

Same here, I did alot of searching on here and I know at least a couple of members here have swapped out the bulbs for LEDs, but not sure how many or what sizes they used. I've already done the LED upgrade to my Acura RL gauge cluster, so I know I can do this myself. It's easy, you just gotta take your time taking everything apart.

Really? only 5? That seems like a low number to me. I was thinking probably 8, but at least 6. I know some of the 94s and earlier models have that extra ambient lighting border around the gauges (mine does), which I don''t think was available on the 95s. But I'm not gonna mess with that. I really just wanna change the speedometer, tachometer, fuel, & temp gauges. You know what, I'm just gonna take it apart either later today or tomorrow and I will post my results. Maybe I'll even take some pics to make the process easier for the next person who wants to do this :yesnod

I've been experimenting with exterior LED lighting. In my experience, you're going to order bulbs more than once... you're not going to like the looks of something - want this one brighter, etc...

I'd love white gauges...call me crazy. My Q though is Ivory Pearl and the console is black - I think it would look slick

somebody is still hung up on their maxima. lol ;)

the script/fontstyle on the Q is much more elegant than the blocky Nissan style, but a matching white set could look really nice. I did white gauges in my 240sx and really like them for the contrast.

after I posted that I saw these - which even have the same layout as the Q, plus the mph etc. look to be in the same positions - may be off a hair though.

hey, white gauges done right are awesome ;) this is my 89 Maxima's white gauges at night, the white turns dark and numbers light up (the pic doesn't do them justice, the lettering had a gold hue to it, wasn't too blingy!)

A few years back you could get a white face gauge panel for the G50 Q45. I was going to get it for mine but never got around to it. Not sure if they are still available. I had completely forgot about it until I read this thread.

The three large bulbs are what you want to change to T-10 LED's the warning lights and such need to be left to stock, looks better that way. I checked this all out to do mine .

When you disconnected battery cable, did you have to disconnect the air bag module before removing all dash and steering wheel pieces to pull the instrument cluster? If so, was it one harness plug under dash?

No need to disconnect the air bag module. Make sure to fully extend and lower the steering column or you'll have a tough time getting the bezel surrounding the cluster out.

I like to remove the two bolts that hold the steering column up and let it hang down a couple of inches... it makes removing the surround much easier, and you don't snag it on the ignition switch.

Heres a site that has them for $19.99 + some more colors for more money. Guessing the quality is crap but as long as it looks good it will never be touched inside the covered cluster
