Hello everyone,I'm new to this forum. I did do the search option but cannot find the answers so I post this thread. I plan to buy a g35 year 03-05 which I can afford. after researching around I'm worry about the problems that g35 have

1. I heard that g35 consume alot of oil and has the oil leaking in the spark plug # 6. so if I buy the car use, and it out of warranty how can I fix that? How much? does the problem go away or just keep come up? What engine does this problem happen the most? manual or automatic ?

2. I heard that the g35's brake system is really bad. People have to change the disks and pads every 15k-20k. . So if i buy the car, and upgrade the brake to brembo disks and ebc pads does the problem go away? or it just because the ABS and traction system has problem that replacing disk and pads will not help?

Please help me, I'm a student and don't want to make a bad decision that make me spend $1k-2k every year just to fix the brake and oil problems. Thank everyone

Welcome to NICO!

I would recommend the newest model G you can afford. The 03-04 have issues with the stereo head deck and AC board. The 05-06 (07 coupes too) have an oil consumption problem, but it isn't as widespread as you think.

Search the boards for more info, this has been talked about a lot.

Welcome to Nico!

So, basically any car you get will most likely have some oil consumption. but that's not too much of a problem from my perspective as nearly any car you will ever get will have some oil consumption. As for the brake problem, that was the problem the '03 and '04s had. '05 was the year they removed the brembo package and just put bigger stock brakes. And also if you're planning on getting it manual i suggest getting an '05 because that was the year Nissan fixed the transmission problem that the '03 and '04s were having.

hope this helped!

There are many posts on oil consumption.

Here are a few of mine.

I currently get 3500 to 4000 miles per quart so I no longer have to add oil between oil changes.

1. Oil Consumption is on manual trannys, so no worries if you get an auto.

I had an 05 sedan that had a valve cover that leaked into the number 6 cyl. However, my 04 coupe is fine.

2. Also, don't think the brakes are that much of a worry. The OEM pads did wear out fast from what I have heard, but just go with aftermarket and you are

C. I purchased my 04 coupe two years ago with 44K miles on her. Bought a Nissan extended warranty that still have 1.5 years/20K miles left on it.I would suggest checking with Nissan on an extended warranty thru one of the sponsors here. Get the VIN and mileage, they should be able to give you a quote.

Thank you for all your help. @Telcoman: so you just keep changing the oil every 3k miles and the oil consumption will get better? So do you know where the oil go? @SVTCOBRA: what did you do when the oil leak? For the warranty I can go to the nissan dealer (because I don't want to go to infiniti which I think it gonna get more expensive)and ask for the extend warranty right? do you know how much they usually charge?

For the brake problems just just don't buy the 03, 04... and changing to aftermarket rotor and pads will solve the problem?

If I don't change the oil at nissan dealer will it void my warranty?

Sr for have alot of question.

Mine was still under the powertrain warranty, so Infiniti would have replaced the valve covers under that, but I traded it for the 04 coupe.check you in service date on the car you are going to get. See if it is still covered.

Nissan can not perform Infiniti factory warranty work. However, you can purchase an extended warranty thru Nissan and they will perform work under that warranty. This is what I did. Shop around for prices too. Seems like my 3 year was around 1,100 or 1,600....can't remember, but it was an employee price.

Welcome to NICO!

I had an 05 and now an 07 6MT coupe and never experienced the oil consumption problem.

Brembo's are great but wear quickly (so I'm told) and they have lots of brake dust. They came on the 03 and 04 (correct me if I'm wrong)

The stereo in the 03 and 04 definitley had a common head unit problem. Are you an aftermarket stereo person? If so, then don't let the stereo affect your decision.

Nissan oil changes will not affect your warranty.

And lastly, IMO, get an 05+

Where does the oil go?

Well I suppose one place it goes is a small amount can get by the piston rings when the engine is cold and get burned in the combustion chambers.

Some engines use some oil and some do not. My experience has been as the miles on my engine increased, my oil consumption has decreased.

Now since you are still a student perhaps you should save some money and buy a cheaper vehicle while you are still in school? After you graduate and get a job you should have more money saved and could afford a newer vehicle or even a brand new one.

Just my $.02

I heard that the 06-07 has worse problem with the oil consumption is that true?

So if I want to get the manual go with 05+

If auto just get the 03-04, and need to replace the radio unit, which cost about 700 rite?

@Telcoman: what vehicle would you suggest for a student like me? I would like to have the luxury/ sport look, but don't want to spend alot on maintenance, regular oil change.Tire and brake replace every 20-30k mile I can handle but not too crazy

My daughter is 20 and is in college. We got her a 2000 Max SE with about 65K on her ($11,000 before down payment). Now has 91K.She put $1000 down and we matched. She makes her own car payment when not in college.

My son is 17 and is in HS.We got her a 2005 Ford Focus SES 4door with 50K on her ($6,900 before down payment). Now has 59K.He put $1000 down and we matched. He makes his own car payment.

You might want to consider a Ford Focus 4 door. Gets good mileage and runs on regular gas. Has lots of room. He is in a band and can get his half stack, guitars and a drum set in it!!
