i have a 93 coupe, and plan to do a swap late 2008. i have looked on a few sites at engines and clips, and im liking the clip idea better. i have heard that its worth the money just for random little parts ect, and the extra protection for the engine. my question is, most of the clips i have seen come with the body panels and lights. do some companies sell clips with the body off for less? i want to keep my front end stock, and naturally i want to pay as little as possible. are there some good sites to look into?

thanx in advance.

Your best bet would be to just buy a motorset...they come with everything you need. Anything else can be got for less off the for sale forums.

Figure cost of shipment for the clip, then removal of the clip when you're done into the total cost too...you'll see how much it adds up. Anymore most companies take the panels off, and sell them, as a way to make more money off of clips...

This place has a TON of nice venders. Buy from them!

I'm pretty sure you can email the vendors and see what they say about the panels

Most clips have had thier body panels/lights removed. Go with one of NICO's vendors and you'll get all you need for the swap with a motorset. Call the vendor first to ensure that they'll include everything you want/need. If you plan on doing a RHD conversion get a clip, if not, get a motorset.

I meant most companies state-side pull the body stuff off of the clips to bc they can sell it for more separately. If you ask for all the body panels, or they don't feel like messing with taking everything off, you'll get them.

Maybe but having those things included isn't guaranteed with most vendors. A lot are kind enough to include it, but it isn't something you should bank on. If it's the OP's first swap I'd recommend a front clip. It helps seeing how everything is arranged in the engine bay. To answer the original question no doubt you could request them to remove the body parts but they probably wont take much if any off the price. Most front clips have damaged body parts from the original owners, the half cutting process, and shipping so the companies count the body parts as a bonus for you but not a part of the price.

Thre is absolutly no need for a clip. What is there to see?

Wire harness, fuel lines, throttle cable....all of which are the same engine to engine.....

No offense, but I'd rather see the o/p save his time/energy and money....

i think a clip can be easier becasue you can see where everything is hooked up. and for a first time swap that could be help ful.

now if you have done it before then a motor set would work great.

but when you dont know aht you are doing and you get a pile of hoeses and crap on top of your motor with no clue about waht goes where it could be a pain.

Maybe not for almighty codyace, but once again it really helps for first time swappers. You knew a lot coming into S-Chassis or cars in general but a lot of us are starting from scratch. I can say that seeing how everything was stock helped me to make my swap clean and neat.

I know computer nerds, about as mechanically inclined as a football, intall sr20's with no issues.

An FSM, and common sense will guide anyone through any issues. Clips used to be nice, as you could get some little nicknacks, and the sort, but not anymore....

u can find those little parts anywhere now the only reason i would say to get a clip is to do a front end conversion

Geez, this topic has been discussed to death. Get a clip, do the swap, sell the leftovers.

hey bro i have just finished a sr and a RB swap on both of my cars and i will never buy a front clip again! all you need is a complete motor, trans, ecu, side mount ic and wiring harness. you dont need the motor mounts or the x-member because the sr and ka are the same. Plus your going to have a whole bunch of left over garbage if you buy a front clip (entire front of a car you will never use. $$ when u decide to throw it away). I know some people like to get the front clip, but you dont need it. doing a sr swap is pretty simple and a front clip is not required in my opinion! do yourself a favor and spend a lot of times on these forums reading other peoples questions. go through page 1-50 or however many there are. the people on here know their stuff.

peace and good luck with your swap

I find it funny that most of the people talking against front clips don't even have the slightest idea what they do and don't include.

Exactly. You've swapped before. Like we have already discussed.

No one said it was. It makes for a cleaner swap.
