I was changing the oil in my mom's 91' Q45 the other day and I removed the air cleaner assembly along with the plumbing to the throttle body to gain better access to the oil filter. As I took the plumbing off that included the MAF I looked inside to see how the MAF looked and I had seen a red colored oil coating the sensor which I am pretty sure came from the K&N air filter that the previous owner had installed. Now since I have drivin the car I have noticed that the car tends to stumble at times on the highway and I have to gun it to stop the studdering. I wonder if this is the cause. Anyway, can I use electrical contact cleaner to clean the sensor or will that ruin it?

Thanks, Matt Jacksonville, FL

Well to begin with I meant to post this in the Infiniti section and instead posted here and if the search engine would work then maybe I would get somewhere. Anything I type in the search comes back with nothing so either I look at every post on this site until I find it or I ask the question.

There is already one post regarding the same thing on the front page of the SR forum.

The search function works fine for me.

I've ruined 2 perfectly good MAFS by using electrical contact cleaner. Everyone says run it but it has had mixed results for me. I now use a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol. No probs. Just remember to be VERY careful.

Thats because the MAF is not an electrical contact, it's simply a heated wire that is cooled, so any intermediary insulation will cause it to read incorrectly.

I know you know how it works, I'm just wondering where people get the idea for using electrical contact cleaner.
