What type of grit sandpaper would you guys recommend I use to clean up some of the "rust/dirt" that have accumulated over the years on my 83 280zx 6 spoke wheels? I called a wheel shop to ask how much it would cost to restore my wheels and they said $200/wheel. Is it alright if I sand the entire wheels myself, and then polish it with aluminum polish?

You can just try to use like a 1000 grit then a 2000 grit before you polish it so it wont scratch up the wheel too much.

And let it soak in some degreaser for a bit so it can loosen some of that grime thats on there
