So I am in the process of rebuilding a dual cam KA and just finished everything on the head today and am getting ready to start putting it back together. Only I have a minor problem and am not sure what I need to do to resolve the issue.

When I took the head apart I removed the lifter buckets and did not know I needed to mark and remember where they went.

These things:

What do I need to do to put these back in? I read one place that if you dont know which go where, the engine wont run properly and they will need to be replaced. If thats the case, I need to know where I can get them. Or if they dont need to be replaced, what I need to do to install them properly.

Thanks in advance!

They are called lifter buckets. Its bad that you didnt label them, no getting around it. Each bucket mates with the corisponding contact point on the camshaft and wears evenly. When you mix them up the cam is going to have to 're breakin' with the new surfaces.

I mean honestly, you can just slap them back in and check your valve lash and you will be fine. It would be smart to buy new shims all around, but they are damn expensive and that is unnessicary.

Just make sure your valve lash is set correctly, go through the FSM and figure out how to check it its pretty simple. You will need a feeler gage to do this.

The shim on top of my bucket on my 4th cylinder's intake side has a light colored circle around the middle, and I think that is where my tapping sound is coming from.

Any ideas on how I go around fixing this?

A light colored circle huh.. Have you had any head work done recently? Are you sure its just not a wear pattern?

The tapping sound could be your valve lash being out of adjustment. You can check it with a FSM and feeler gages.

No head work as far as I know.I'll look into the valve lash.

Thanks for the response 480sx...

The other thing is the head will be completely rebuilt when I get and I am also doing the exhaust cam swap while I am in there, any other precautions to take or does that really effect the valve lash?
