First off i dont wish anything bad to anyone.... Im planning on buying a 06 or 07 M35 in a couple months and i have planned for everything but alarms. I know all M35's have alarms but i want something better. I did all my research say the factory alarm is really good. any to my question. Has anyone ever heard of there being a thieft of a newer M35s. People are getting crazy stealing everything and i want my "M" well protected.

If someone is going to steal your car, they will tow it with a flat bed and take their time to get into it in their own garage. So, the only alarm system would be motion activated alarm and you need to activate it every time you park - it is a hassle and if someone accidently touched your car while alarm is activated, it will beep like crazy. Done that before and it is not worth it.

So, my solution now is: I keep 2 cars, if I am going to drive and park at some place I do not feel comfortable, I take my 2nd car and leave the M home.

Having an alarm a bit above basic would still be a good idea though. maybe some shock sensors and glass breaking sensors. It will deter the "lesser" thiefs. And having an alarm on will deter the idiots who bump your car a bit too hard to test out the alarm system. Sure if they really wanted to steal it then someone could. Like M45Runner said, they can always tow it away and break in at their leisure. But at least detering the people who are not so hardcore will save you some headaches.

I have a GPS lowjack system in my car, so if someone were to tow it away the cops could still find them pretty easy. Of course, the likelyhood that the cops would get the car back before damage was done to it is still kinda small, but at least the guys would be caught.

thx for the responses but i should of been more specific. is the factory alarm satisfactory. i just will have an issue @ school parking is so far away and i dont want anyone breaking in without the alarm not working or something like that

I gotcha you. In that case, a better alarm does make more sense. Maybe a system that will dial your cell phone would be even better.

The problem with alarms is that no one pays any attention to them. They're always going off and people have become conditioned to just ignore them. The only alarm that is worth anything is one that disables the starter (you already have that) or LoJack which will track your car once it has been stolen.
