Quote » Does the 350z come with a factory amplifier?
Yes. The Touring and Grand Touring models come with the Bose Sound System which consists of different speakers (mostly the ohm ratings are different), a special Bose Subwoofer, and a Bose Amplifier to supply power. The other trim levels do not come with an amplifier.
Where is the factory amp located?
On the Bose equipped 350Z’s, the amplifier is located in the far left trunk corner. If you pull up the carpet and spare tire cover, you will see it bolted to the floor.
Can I use the factory amp with aftermarket speakers?
This has been debated over the years on several forums, with no real clear answer. Bose uses a proprietary system that does not conform to industry standards. Typically the OHM rating on the Bose speakers is either much lower, or much higher than the industry standard 4ohms. The general consensus is that you should not use aftermarket speakers in conjunction with the Bose amp. It may work, but you run the risk of burning out either the speakers, the amp, or both.
Can I just replace the factory amp with an aftermarket one?
Yes and No. The Bose amplifier is wired much differently than other aftermarket amplifiers. It is possible to catch the input and output signals at the Bose amp, but wire splicing will be required. Power cables will also be required. Most aftermarket amplifiers will not fit in the OEM location.
How much power can the OEM wires handles?
I ran 75 watts RMS through the OEM wires for about a year. I never had any problems. For those that dont know, 75 watts RMS is ALOT of power for 6.5" component speakers. It is more power than the human ear can stand for any length of time. [/quote]source
