hey guys my car hasnt been running great for the past few months(it was running great when i first got it however) The car is lacking power.....running rich and backfiring and it never did this when i first got it. I initially thought it was the o2 sensor but i changed the sensor with a new one and it still ran like crap........so then i thought it was the tps.......so i unplugged it and went for a drive and the car was runnning great ....there was no backfiring and was running much better....i then went throught the procedure to test the tps.........i got good continuity between engine ground and terminal C......i was getting 5V for power.......this is all to spec......i then tested for voltage from the middle wire with closed throttle and wide open throttle....this was also to spec...........then i tested the tps itself.......wide open throttle i got about 5Kohms which is to spec.....i then tested with throttle released and i got 12 Kohms(its supposed to 0.7 according to the manual....and doubled checked reading 3 times).........does this mean my tps is screwed and has to be replaced? thanks guys

I'd replace it.

TPS unplugged just puts the ECU in the high map AFAIK.

I'd just pick up a used one that works.

Not sure what resistance you're suppose to get. but at closed, you're supose to read 0.45-0.5V, and at WOT it should be around 4.2V

the voltages readings i took from center wire were accurate as i said....i got 0.45 released and about 4.5 at WOT......

everything was to spec except when i tested the tps itself(with plug out).......i touched the bottom 2 prongs and at WOT i got 5Kohms(right on spec) and released i got 12.7(way off....suppoed to be 0.7) and double checked 3 times......i live in canada and i was just talking to some who said the cold weather might have screwed the tps...........and my car started to run like **** as soon as the cold weather started......and i mean cold......today it is about -20 celcius.....or 0 F about.........i wonder if the cold weather screwed it up.......and i wonder if it will go back to normal when the warm weather hits in a couple months........im gonna replace it with a used one i can off this guy in toronto for about 30 bucks......see what happens...

0 deg. weather doesn't mean much when it's 100+ degs. under the hood.
